"I'm finished," Anne said, trying to keep the irritation out of her voice, as it was directed at herself and not her lady-in-waiting. But it stung Lily non the less. Bowing, she took the tray that help her mistress' nearly empty breakfast tray out of the small dinig where there were often held elaborate games for money. Her face held a smile but on the inside, she was pushing her pissiness down. Perhaps the waning of the blood moon was coming soon; once a month since she was 9. Sighing, Lily disregarded the thought.
Lily walked down the halld quickly, the ceilings high with glass windows on her left hand side. Torches were held high on the stone walls to her right, the flickering shadows bouncing up and down. It was too early in the mornign to be up, but Lily was starting to become use to it. Looking to her right, she looked at the tall portraits wishing one of them was her. Her green eyes wandered to the passing guards and dukes and who ever else she didn't recongnize. Lily was open about her status and would not shy away from the looks of passersby as did other servants. She knew she was beneath them, but she was still more in her heart. When she first came to court, she was a shy girl of only 18. This was when Queen Catherine was still the queen and trouble was just on the horizon. Now though, people would whisper about the the dishonesty of the King and how he disobeyed the Church. The strife in the air was thick and no one knew how to handle it since everyone were only servants of the King.
She was going down the back stairs to take the tray to the kitchen for the servants to take care of. It was nasty down there, the stink getting stronger as she went further into the castle. Lily held her breath, holding the tray closer to her yellow beaded bodice. It was a gift from the queen to have her ladies-in-waiting to look their best. And it was Lily's pleasure when men looked at her with ungaurded eyes, although she would never admit it. Finally she was in the kitchen and she hated the smell. People were bustling about without noticing her, she made her way and placed the tray where it belonged in the sink. The man at the was grumbling about getting out of the kitchen not noticing her piling more dishes into the dirty sink.
Quickly getting out the servants that were under her's way, she lifted her chin and walked back slowly to the Queen's room, hoping there wasn't as much work as there was yestersday. Lily sighed and leaned against the stone walls, next to a large painting. She closed her eyes for a brief moment before hearing a movement in a small corridor which is usually regarded as servants. It was the Duke of Cornwall and someone else. She couldn't just put her finger on it. It was a hoarse whisper and Lily leaned in closer to hear what the man had to say that was so important. She would only stay for a minute, or two? Lily was eager to hear gossip so she could tell the other ladies-in-waiting.
Tucking a piece of fallen red hair behind her left ear, Lily listened. Something about Germany...";

Trevor was walking down the long corridor following the Duke of Cornwall. He was talking to another man and Trevor tried to listen, he was too far away and was straining his ears. The Duke of Cornwall and his companion stopped and Trevor leapt into the nearest hallway.
The Duke turned and made sure no one was following him and started speaking. Trevor overheard very little, but he did manage to make out the that the Duke was plotting to murder the king. Trevor also made out that there were several others assisting in this plan to overrule the current king. The Duke was in favor of the king’s younger brother and believed with enough support the prince could finally be crowned as king.
As a knight, Trevor felt it was his duty to forewarn the king. He turned around, ready to storm off and tripped over a large, bent over object. He made a thunderous crashing sound and realized that the Duke and his companion would soon be on their way to see what the source of the noise was. Looking down, Trevor saw the shape of a young woman. She seemed barely old enough to be in court, maybe twenty years of age. Picking himself and the young woman up, he looked down and was a good half a foot taller than her. He grabbed her arm and ran in the opposite direction.
Once Trevor felt he was far enough away from any ears, he stopped. Grabbing the young woman, he shoved her against the wall and turned to face her.
“What is your name and why were you eavesdropping?”

Lily didn't know what to think. One minute she was trying to listen in on a conversation for some harmless gossip and the next she was being thrown against the floor and then running as if there was a fire. She sneered at the man who was in front of her as she was thrown to the wall practically.
"Is it any of your business who I am? For all you know I could have been someone of importance." Lily smoothed out her clothes with her hands. Clucking her tongue, Lily looked pointedly at the man. "I heard most of what you were talking about. What, didn't think your little secret would get out? You should have been more discrete." A small smile played across her rosey lips.
"I'm Lily Fitzgerald, lady-in-waiting for Our Lady, Anne Boleyn. Who are you so I will be able to tell the King of your personal ambitions."

Trevor looked this meek little girl up and down and came to the conclusion that she was of little importance.
"My name is Knight Trevor Braiden. Lily Fitzgerald...I'll have you know that I was on my way to inform the King of the discussion between the Duke and his companion. I was not, and never will, plot to over throw the King. My duty is to serve him, and I will not have you drag my name through the mud with your disgusting conclusions. For all I know, you could also be one of the several involved."
Trevor stepped away from Lily. "Now, if you will excuse me, I must go warn the King of the Duke and your plans. I hope to see you all beheaded for such treachery," Trevor hissed and started walking away, leaving Lily alone.

Lily looked closely at the man, almost fearing what she was hearing. But then it dawned on her that if she told Anne of what she heard from this so called knight, that he was the one who was plotting to kill the King, then she would have the upper hand. He walked off but she followed him as if he needed an explanation.
"And so you will tell the King of what you just heard and what? You're only a knight. If I were to tell our Grace Anne, then I would have the upper hand. Stop now and listen closely young man. Mark my words, my head will not be on the chopping block on the morrow." She paused for a moment and thought about it. If they both thought the other was the only plotting to kill the King, then who really was the perpetrator?
Looking around and noticing some passerby's were starting to stare. "Perhaps we should take this into a more private room. Think about it. If you think I'm the actual person to be.." her voice was above a whisper as she grabbed onto the mans arm to make him stop walking to look at her. "to be plotting to kill the King and I think you are, who could it possibly be? Not me or you. Come now, follow me."

Trevor followed Lily, but was hesitant. He still did not trust her and with good reason. "If I were to tell the King myself, I would be acting upon my duty as a knight. With what reason would you wish to tell your Lady Grace Anne? What would she possibly be able to tell the King that I am not able to do myself? I have informed you that it is the Duke that was plotting this assasination. If it was neither you nor myself, I think maybe we should work together to catch the others. That way we will both benefit and reap the rewards of catching these treasonous villians."
She looked over at the man quizzically as she pulled him down a long stone hallway lined with torches. Their shadows climbed taller as the torches flickered. You could smell a smokey stench as they made their way to her small room.
"In here, quick before someone sees." Lily hissed between her teeth.
Her room wasn't lavish, but it was enough for her. Lavendar was mostly what filled the room due to Her Grace wanting to make sure she had the best. Letting go of Trevor's arm, Lily went and sat at the wooden chair that her father made for her.
Lily waved her hand at Trevor to sit down in a chair next to the window. "Finally we're alone. You do know the King is courting Our Grace, Anne, yes? " She paused for a moment. "Now we can talk about this treacherous plot. What I know is only that I heard the Duke speaking to someone about killing the King. Did you hear any details about it? And who might the perprtraitor be?"

Trevor gladly sat down in the chair that was offered to him. Breathing in, he noted that the room smelled of sweet lavender. He briefly wondered if that was Lily's favorite scent and made a mental note of it.
"I was unaware that the King was courting anyone at all. I have been aware, traveling the far lands and I just returned. I just so happened to be following the Duke and overheard him speaking with someone about their plot. I am sure I would have heard more if I was not interuppted by another eavsdropper. Thanks to you, I heard very little."
Trevor was not in the mood to talk any further and felt that he had made it pretty clear to Lily. He felt that he was wasting his time speaking with this meek young woman. He felt the faster he told the King, the better. He stood up to leave and started walking towards the door.

Lily looked the man over. He was big. Muscular. And she couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she believed his only being cold was a defense mechanism. For what, she didn't know.
"Where are you going?" Lily asked as she watched him walk to the door. She couldn't help but stare at the back of his head as he paused at the door. What was going on in his head? "Perhaps you should wait to tell the king. Wouldn't it be best to figure out who it is first? He will have this castle in an uproar and might even scare away the people who are trying to kill him. Maybe have one of us convince the Duke of Cornwall we are his friends, not enemies. Please... Stay? I will call for some tea for us."
Lily smoothed out her dress some more. It was of a yellow color, and looked almost golden in the flickering candlelight. She looked down at her dress and picked at some lint. She didn't know what else to say to the gentleman. They were all in deep trouble and she didn't know how to handle it on her own.

Trevor paused at Lily's plea to stay. He turned around to look at her face and and thought she was really quite stunning. Her eyes were of an emerald color and her hair was a lovely shade of red. Trevor said "Tea sounds wonderful. I think you have a brilliant idea of becoming friends with the Duke of Cornwall. I do not want the people of the kingdom to have to worry for the health of their King. There are too many other worries in the world, we do not want to add on to their concerns."
He walked up to Lily and stuck out his hand to her "I think we should agree to be friends, for now. Let's make an accord to protect the King and if either one of us is the true conspitator, than we both agree to take the other down." He grabbed Lily's hand and gently kissed the top of it. "If that sounds alright to you, of course."

As Lily sat there, she looked up into his eyes and searched his face of any recognition that he was lying to her and only pulling her into a trap. When he kissed her hand, she looked away and blushed. She was surprised and embarrassed. Who was this man? She fanned herself with her free hand.
She had never been terribly intimate with someone else like this. Of course she has had a dangerous kiss here and there, but nothing or no ever wanting to come forthright and kiss her hand.
"Thank you, my lord. Give me a moment, I will call for tea. Do you wish for sugar as well?" Sugar may have been a luxery, but she knew the kitchen kept a little specially for her.
"What do you suggest we do? Shall we begin tomorrow at dawn?" She stood up slowly, her chest brushing against the man. Apologizing, she moved farther back and made her way to the door to call for the tea.

Trevor felt Lily's skin flush underneath his lips. He released his her hand and smiled, showing his white teeth. Trevor looked at Lily and noticed her yellow dress and thought to himself that she was of lower class than himself, but he didn't seem to mind associating with her. Trevor, being a knight, wore much flashier clothes: a red and gold doublet and tall black boots. He was also carrying his scabbard, as was expected with his knightly duties.
Lily had asked him about wanting tea with sugar and Trevor replied, "I know that sugar is scarce nowadays, thank you for the offer My Lady, but I shall decline." Trevor smiled politely.
Lily had stood up and brushed against Trevor, when their bodies made contact, Trevor felt a faint blush come across his face. He quickly changed the subject and ignored his flush.
"Why don't we make this a friendly competition? Let's see who can get closest to the Duke of Cornwall. We can see who gets him to reveal his assassination plot first. We can discuss more over tea. It's just a friendly competition My lady, so please consider before declining."

Lily paused for a moment and nodded her head before opening the door and calling for a maid to fetch tea with sugar on the side. Of course, the maid was none other than one of her oldest friends, Mia. Lily told her hurriedly to bring some tea with two tea cups.
Mia being nosy, she tried to push past Lily as if she was the door. Lily proceeded to keep her stance, not letting her through. "No, I will not have you gossiping behind my back about who is in my room. Now do bring me the tea, please?" She whispered. Shooing Mia away, Lily closed the door and turned around. Giving a sweet smiled and told Trevor to please sit back down.
"We have to wait for the tea to get here, so it may be a moment. I'm sorry." She proceeded to make her way back to her seat, making sure not to touch him once again.
She thought about his request for a moment. Thinking back on the past few months, it had gotten pretty boring. Doing the same thing day and night. "Perhaps we shall. What do I get when I win?" Lily asked matter-of-factly. She smiled more widely now and looked into Trevor's chocolate brown eyes. "This will be fun." Finally after a few moments, there was a slight knock at the door and Lily quickly made her way to it before Mia could open the door. Thanking her, Lily shut the door and set the tea on the table near the stool so they could drink some tea.
She poured a little sugar in her tea, waiting for a reply.

When Lily asked Trevor what she would get if she won their little wager, he was a little dumbfounded. He did not imagine her to agree so easily. He waited in silence until the tea came. Lily had set the tea on the table and Trevor gently picked it up. Taking a small sip of tea, Trevor hummed in tasteful pleasure.
"I will give you whatever your heart desires and you shall give me the same courtesy if I win." He looked over to Lily and gave her a confident smile. Trevor made another mental note about Lily, she enjoyed sugar with her tea.

He was being ever so quiet and Lily didn't know what else to say. She took a sip of the tea and took in the scent. It smelled just like how her mother would make it. A little sweet but also powerful. Soon, she would need to check in with her mistress and plot about the Duke. Teasingly, she said "And what is it that you would want? You'll have to tell me once I win so I'll know not to rub salt into the wound."
Lily sipped at her tea once more before setting it down. "Please, do tell me about yourself. I figure we will be spending so much time together secretly, we might as well know something about each other. Family, friends, likes, dislikes. Anything, really. I shall do the same in return."

Trevor laughed when Lily asked him what he wanted. He honestly had no idea. He was content with all of his worldy possesions and didn't long for much. "I apologize, My Lady, but I have no wordly desires and when I win, I may have a hard time thinking of something that I long for." He took another sip of his tea, gaging her reaction.
"There is not a lot to know about me. I am, like I said before, a knight and my duty is to serve the King. I have been traveling in the far lands, protecting the kingdom. I have been in many battles. I lost my family when I was young due to illnesses. I grew up alone. I really am a bland person, but I am sure your life is far more interesting than myself. If you could, please inform me about yourself."
Trevor leaned in, awaiting her reply. He wanted to know more about this woman before him. He found her interesting and was looking forward to spending time with her, even if he had to use this competition as a reason.

She nodded as she looked over him. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but there was something different about this man. She smiled widely as he stated he didn't want anything. Of course, there was always something to be wanted. A friend, a new home, a new life. Lily sighed and took another sip of tea.
"I'm sure you're not as bland as you think, my lord. You have your fancy clothes and probably your own horse. You don't have any hobbies or things you like to do in the mean time other than protecting our king? I'm sorry hear about your parents. Did you stay with other family? Or have you always been here in the castle?" She paused for a moment before going on. What is exciting about her?
"Well, I grew up in Ireland. When I turned 18, my Lady hand picked me to become her first lady-in-waiting. It really was an honor. Hmmm..." She tapped her chin, thinking. "I like the color and smell of Lavender. I like to play with the children if I have free time. Roam the gardens. Tend to my lady. I don't do much." She giggled into her hand. She got up slowly and walked to the window and looked out it. She should be leaving soon.
"Alas, I must leave to tend to Lady Anne. You are welcome to stay here or do what you wish. Our games shall begin tonight, do you agree?" She turned and looked at Trevor and smiled secretly.

"I don't have any family" Trevor said, looking somewhat dejected. "I have always been alone and I am used to it now. I grew up in the castle and don't have many, if any, friends. It's not something that I long for." Trevor knew he was lying to not only himself, but also to Lily. He did not want to show any weakness, espeically to Lily. He found her interesting and was starting to enjoy her company.
"Lady Anne would have been a fool to pass you as her first lady in waiting" Trevor looked into Lily's eyes and smiled widely. He was not sure why but he felt comfortable with her.
When Lily spoke and giggled, Trevor thought she was the most beautiful and he suddendly had the urge to make her laugh more and to smile more.

Lily stood still for a moment, looking at Trevor. It was nice to have someone else to talk to other than Lady Anne and the other maids. She was sure he was lying. Who could possibly always be alone with no one to talk to? She apologized for even bringing it up.
"Well, I've had a nice time with our little chat. Shall the games begin? What shall you be doing for the Duke to make him come around?" She spoke deliberately.
She sighed and headed for the door to leave. "It's time to go. Come, walk me to Lady Annes' chambers."
