I wasn't sure what else to title this!

First, let me say that my motive isn't to be rude. I don't like to ignore players or make them feel bad. My question is, if a player joins your thread who isn't a good fit for the Rp, do we have to Rp with them? That sounds harsh, but there are some situations where this is.. a thing. Really A Thing™.

For example, I encounter this often with characters that forcibly redirect the focus of the Rp onto them self. In a way that hijacks the Rp. (Forcing characters to pay attention to them, drastically changing the intended mood, etc).

Also, players that don't read a thread's intro or ignore the suggested play style.

Is there a suggested approach?

The way RPR is setup, it pretty much gives the thread starter(s) the reigns on how to handle what's going on in their roleplays. Groups also have their own set of rules.

Mismatches happen and are part of life, and it's absolutely okay to tell a player "Hey, thanks for your interest but your character doesn't fit what we/I had in mind. We're not interested in playing with them, but we wish you the best of luck finding a more suitable game."

As long as you don't break any of the site rules in your rejection, you can reject any player or character you feel doesn't work out. This is not mean or rude, it's just part of matchmaking. Hopefully they will leave your thread after being informed, but if they persist in posting and won't leave you alone, please do report them to the moderators using the "Report" button on their offending posts and feel free to block them.

In most cases, players are encouraged to ask before joining a thread unless it specifically mentions anyone is welcome at any time. You're welcome to remind them to check in with the thread starter first before hopping in so they won't feel like they wasted their time and effort!
