((Now before you hop right into it please PM me for permission. This rp was made with a vision in mind between Tusitala2017 and I and I'd rather include new characters naturally, rather than spontaneously.))

Jalsinter's Shop

Jalsinter sat before a worktable untidily covered by tools and newly-finished pieces of jewelry. Though it was noon a thick blanket of clouds blocked the sky outside, and rainfall battered the goldsmith's roof the entire day. Idly he stood to approach the front window, pushing away its curtain to peer through the foggy glass.

Most folk didn't wander the streets on days like these, lest they tempt illness and criminals to find them. He did spot a few people darting to and fro, likely to complete inevitable errands and get out of the downpour as soon as possible. So it was easy for him to notice further down the street a group of men on horseback were coming.

Jalsinter squinted; he recognized those men, their coat of arms and the one who lead them. Quietly he withdrew into the workshop and stowed his finished pieces away before walking into his bedroom-- a humble place for a knight to sleep by any standards-- and collected his weapon, its sheath and a belt.

In a minute he was back in the workshop, sword on his belt and grim thoughts on his mind. Pentre was a harsh and unreasonable man who had his eye on the Forheri lands for years. Even now, once he'd claimed them, the man kept his newfound vassal under a tight leash. Jalsinter did not look forward to speaking with him on that day, no matter what the lord had come to talk about.

Still, he did wonder what Pentre wanted, or if he even intended to stop at his home.
Sir Pentre passed through the main street expecting all commoners and villagers to gather at the main square and hear the noon announcements.

The announcement of course was to make it known that the lord of the lands had been murdered by his eldest son Alterigos who was now in hiding, elusive of the law.

The king had appointed Pentre as the new lord knight of the realm and liege lord of these lands and henceforth they all owed him obedience, respect and servitude.

He made it clear that he would avenge the lord's death by making the three greedy callous murderous sons pay for what they had done.

No sooner the message was delivered, Pentre let the air and anger of outrage and indignation brew before coming to the workshop where the youngest son Atoli worked.

"Greetings... peasants" murmured Pentre pacing around the workshop to examine the goods for sale

Jalsinter lingered near his desk, looking up from it once Pentre arrived. He frowned, starting. "My lord." He waited a second and then asked, "Peasants?" He was tempted to say more but held his tongue, sensing that something was amiss.

Hearing the bell, the younger of the two sons came out from their living quarters. Much shorter than Jal, he shared his elder brother's brown hair, though his was messier and sported bangs. Atoli wrestled on a coat while he walked, hesitating several feet away from their lord. He bowed, straightened and then adjusted the collar of his coat.

A scratching noise on the wooden floors suggested a hound followed in the younger noble's shadow. It peered up at Pentre from behind the boy's coat.
"Knight Jalsinter, by royal decree, king Conrad has disowned you and your family and dismissed you from service to the crown with immediate effect.

Your services as a lord of these lands or knight of the realm are no longer wanted nor welcomed and you have been dishonourably dischared from such duties already, which as of now are my responsiblity, as the new lord of Forheri lands and dominions.

I come to forewarn you that making use of your former lordly title or honourable position as a knight of the realm would be a crime of impersonation and usurpation of authority, which is heavily punished, as you can imagine.

Henceforth you and your siblings have lost your lands, your wealth, your nobility, lordly titles and any rights and priviledges such position provided you.

As commoners, you are expected to deliver goods, taxes and services in a timely fashion, as often as demanded by me, your new liege lord and given you are but peasants... I come collect sufficient goods and gold to compensate the costs of your father's undeserved wealthy burial" explained Pentre picking up a trinket box that caught his attention.

Out of my grand generosity, you will only be permitted to work here at this blacksmith's workshop and you will also carry out menial chores around your former home, my castle, such as cleaning the stables, forging and sharpening weapons and polishing armor for my knights and guards among other tasks, as I see fit to appoint.

I come to collect your taxes too, to the tune of one hundred gold pieces..." mused Pentre picking up a dagger whose blade and hilt had been nicely carved and richly decorated.

The older of the two brothers walked closer, glowering down(?) at Pentre. "A harsh decree. The king would not do so without reason; especially after all my family has done for him. What charges convinced him that my family is unworthy?" He used the proximity mostly to watch the lord's expression; to see if the man was telling the truth, or the whole truth. Though Jal was practiced at keeping his reserve, the man's comments regarding his father managed to set him off.

Atoli stayed back, scratching the furry collar of his hound. The beast similarly watched, sensing tension in its master's stances; training had already kicked in and without even their prompting it eagerly awaited a command of attack. The boy's brow furrowed with hurt, his immaturity rendering him much more impressionable than his older sibling.
"It is clear and we are all convinced of this, that your eldest brother murdered your widowed father in cold blood, in attempt to try and seize power over these lands before his due time. This obviously explains why he has become so elusive and absent" commented Pentre

"His majesty and myself as well as the royal scribes have found the children guilty of murdering a lord of the realm, a charge of treason of course... You are no longer trusted by his majesty after what your brother has done, with or without, your direct or indirect cooperation" trailed off Pentre, hand clenching the hilt of the sword at the possible lash out now that the charge of murder and treason had been laid bare

The older nobleman's fists clenched as the lord's accusation was made. He scowled at Pentre. "Alterigos' unorthodox nature says nothing about my father's murder. I know who killed my father. And you'd implicate us to a crime he never committed simply by blood relation? Do you realize how little we even know of our brother's life?" He noticed the lord move his hand to his sword defensively and did similarly, taking a few steps back. Jal was tempted to tell the other man that he had proof of his brother's innocence but knew better than to trust him. Pentre had made his intentions clear from the beginning.

Atoli's hound's ears stood and the beast's muscles went taut; it could tell there was tension between Jalsinter and the newcomer. It lifted its head but stayed close to its master, the boy. He tried to soothe the animal with soft words and a gentle hand at its shoulder.
"No one is interested in your opinions and version of events, once the king has passed his royal decree the word of commoners is of little import, quite irrelevant and insignificant" assured Pentre noticing Jalsinter's defensive move

"Disarm and kneel before my presence to acknowledge me as your liege lord and you shall be treated fairly despite your murderous ties and background..." suggested Pentre

"To refuse will be taken as open defiance and I am sure you do not require a crime of rebellion added to your currently dire situation..." trailed off Pentre

Pentre paced around the worshop running his black gloved finger over a few surfaces and rubbing the dusty tips together.

"I do expect a better upkeep of this property if you have an interest on being able to continue making use of it. Untidiness will not do among my tenants" warned Pentre further, inspecting the interior briefly, before returning his gaze to the items on display that were for sale

"Now then... I trust you are not limited in understanding, pay homage and go fetch the gold" indicated Pentre putting down the trinket box and taking up a medallion that caught his interest with its intrincate designs
