I know you already have a editor in place, but I thought perhaps you would like to check out this editor, as it's lightweight and customizable especially in terms of CSS.

I have used both text editors. The one that is currently on this website, and the one I am suggesting. The current text editor is hard to customize with CSS. Although the current text editor is probably more stable.

Well I would prefer stability over more CSS customization. Just my 2 cents.

You mean BBCode? CSS is not possible with the text editor.

Kim has also manually removed a lot of BBCode options from the editor for legibility and user friendliness reasons, so even if she'd switch over she'd probably remove the features that you're after to stay consistent.

We are unlikely to start offering unrestricted CSS for our text editors; however, an update to our editor is an idea I play with now and again.
