Hello! I have always wanted to try scfi, but never found the guts to do so. How do I find and began my first scfi rp? What are the tips and tricks you recommend for scfi?
If you are going with a fandom setting, get to know the tech and lore of the universe to help build some depth to your writing. For example, if you don't know what a warp drive does in Star Trek, or how the Force works in Star Wars, you are going to struggle to bring the world to your character. Even if your character is detailed and believable, the lack of interaction with the world might make it hard to interact with others.
If you are making your own universe, however, then you really want to have a loose idea of what the technology of the world looks like without going into too much depth. Then as you write, work out those details and build it as you go.
At the end of the day, though, you will want to balance the need for a believable universe with attempts to keep expository technobabble to a minimum. It's not easy, but it can certainly be a lot of fun.

Hard or soft scifi?
Hard sci-fi is like Orion nuclear pulse propulsion and quantum computer aided engineering when it comes to spaceships.
Soft sci-fi is FTL stuff that isn't called Alcubierre or time dilation.
