Brenna grimaced to herself as she continued eating the food. Brenna had been distanced from the privileges of royalty for quite a long time, but she still found herself expecting better than what she got. She couldn't be described as bratty or rude, but food that actually went down easily wasn't so hard to ask for, was it?
She sighed and shoved the last bits of her food away. She pretended to read as she observed the cafeteria more thoroughly. Her roommates were there somewhere. She came in late last night, meaning she didn't even get to see their faces. Were they the two girls sitting together? Or were they some of the few that have also decided to eat alone? She'd find out eventually, she reminded herself.

She marched over to the coffee machine and poured herself a huge mug of coffee as if her life depended on it. She held the waist of the mug close to her palm, feeling the scorching hot warmth burn beneath the skin of her palm. Heading towards the food section, she wasted no time to scoop up a perfectly looking sandwich amongst other half burnt ones, smiling as she glanced around the mess hall.
Her smile quickly diminished as she saw Brenna pushing away her food for another book. Did that girl seriously think she could withstand a day of training without the food she was given. Unless she packed extra snacks (like the fruit she handpicked from the gardens and dried over the course of the week), she was not going to last.
Picking at the scabs of her tray, she sat down over at Brenna's table in hopes of (hopefully) persuading her to finish her breakfast as well as eating hers. She sat down and offered a wave at the other female before biting into her meal, hope flaring up in her as the heavenly taste of eggs flooded her mouth. Thank god the assistant cook was on duty, or else everyone would have starved to death.

Khara continued to eat, despite how.. indescribable the food had tasted. While she would want to dine on something less foul as this tray of food, the girl couldn't exactly complain. Khara was hungry, and she needs the energy, if she were to get through the day without screwing up a lot. Even if the food was like.. bile being sent in her mouth.
Forcing herself to keep on chewing the food, Khara dug into her pocket for something. Giving a rather disappointed look that whatever she wanted wasn't there, Khara just ate once more.
I wish I can just eat something else, right now. But, I can deal with what I have. Like my friend staying over in my home.

Brenna tried not to look ruffled by the girl who sat at her table. She offered a small nod in reply to the girl's wave, but didn't want to progress the conversation much further. She glued her eyes to her book for real this time, hoping the words could give her some relaxation before training.
The book wasn't anything special, but all books brought a sense of peace to Brenna. This one was about an adventure taken on with several men ti defeat a dark lord. It was artsy, but not showy. It was cute.

Leigh feels a bit out of place sitting on his own. He swallows the bitter taste of his food, suffering through it. It's much like when his old roommate before he came here, used to cook for him. Preston was never very good at cooking, Leigh thinks. It's a nostalgic feeling, thinking back to that little apartment.
Unhappy with sitting on his own, Leigh stands with his tray and seeks out his roommate. He smiles as he approaches Khara. Leigh often looks tired, but his smile is always quite friendly. "Hey," he says softly. "Mind if I sit with you?"

As Khara was about to take a rather reluctant bite from the foul cafeteria food, the girl heard a male voice greet himself.
"Hey."
Khara glanced over at the person, who was surprisingly her roommate, standing near her. "Mind if I sit with you?" he had asked her, for what she could recall. She had probably been too surprised internally, and nearly forgot to respond.
"Huh? Oh, uh, sure. You can sit here," Khara responded after a few minutes.

Adelaide continued to munch on her meal, suddenly realizing that she had to choose two people to bring to herb gathering today. Herb gathering was a chore that rotated between trainees, and today was her turn to pick. She gave a sigh, already knowing that she had to pick Dylan to show him the ropes, but who could she pick next?
Leigh nods and takes a seat, stretching his slender legs beneath the table. "Thank you," he says in a formal voice. He wasn't raised to speak as he does; it was just a habit he had developed over time.
"We haven't had much of a chance to talk yet, even though we're roommates. It is Khara, right?" Admittedly, Leigh is horrible with names. Over time, the names that come randomly to mind clear with the names of people he knows, and he can match them to faces. However, first meetings never leave him with much.

"Oh, yes, my name is Khara," she confirmed. "And you're.. Leigh? I'm sorry if I'm incorrect," Khara said.
She'd take another bite at the food, and forced herself to eat it once more. "Sheesh, this food isn't so great," Khara muttered. Her face rather scrunched up at the foulness, and she silently wished that she had brought some fruit instead. Khara sighed, and pushed the food away.
I ate enough anyways.. At least, long enough for me to stand it.

Leigh smiles once more and nods in agreement. "Leigh it is," he says with a soft chuckle.
"Trust me," he says, poking at his food. Leigh takes a disgruntled bite out of the meal set in front of him. "My roommate back home cooked a lot worse than this. After a year of his cooking, this tastes good."

"Your roommate cooked worse than this?" Khara asked in some shock. "Wow.. Maybe they managed to become the cook here," she joked, in hopes that the 18 year old did not offend him.
Khara would then stare at the schedule for a moment, perhaps bored of doing nothing now. She'd begin to play with the food, twirl her hair, or something. Khara sighed, and rested her head on the table after a few minutes. "How long do we sit here, though?" she asked, "I'm not the type of person who can wait that patiently, you know."

Dylan continued to eat, managing to down his meal in it's entirety, unlike some of the others around the room. Taking a drink of the dark brew, he found the coffee to be burnt, as was expected from the quality of the food. His brow furrowed as he looked around, seeing the others having not finished their meals. It was their loss, he supposed. He wanted as much energy as he could get for today's events, whatever they might have happened to be.
Craning her head, she spotted a male sitting with Khara, talking with his roommate almost as if they were old friends. He looked.. cute. She racked her brain, finally deducing that the mystery male was Leigh Cooper, a rather shy trainee that didn't seem to mix with the others. Maybe this herb gathering operation would bring him out of his reverie and tighten the group?
Washing down the last of her sandwich with her coffee, she stood up and disposed of her dirty dishes and headed over to Leigh's table, fidgeting with her tools as she neared them. She waved at Khara and then turned to Leigh, the question of asking him to herb gather suddenly stuck in her throat. She laughed awkwardly and took a deep breath before speaking, "Hey Leigh, my name's Adelaide and I'm in charge of herb gathering today. Agent Ranger specified that I should take two trainees with me.. Would you be alright if you met me at my dorm at 5 for it?" She looked away for a moment before adding, "I have to take Dylan with me since he's new and I need to teach him the ropes, so it won't be that bad."

Brenna flipped the page, pretending to pay little attention to the growing table of trainees. The boy there was Leigh, and her now-absent table mate was Adelaide. Brenna knew that name. That was her more experienced roommate. Leigh was on a different team, in a different dorm room.
Brenna eyed her leftover food, sighing in resentment. She took another bite of the salad she had grabbed. The lettuce and vegetables were mushy, and the Italian dressing was much too tart, but she was hungry, so she ate it.
Brenna flipped to another page, her fork slowly moving back and forth between the bowl and her mouth. This was a good book. All Brenna had had for years was books. She only agreed to the training program to further her skills, which were already satisfactory on their own, but Brenna lacked skills on her own, without powers. That, and she didn't feel like being hunted anymore than the next person.
Brenna flipped to another page, ignoring her growing curiosity about her new situation. It was just another stop on the road to revenge.

Leigh is far from used to this sort of interaction. At home, he was admittedly a hermit, staying in his soundproofed apartment space with his roommate, Preston. Preston pretty much did everything out of the house for him, and he had very little human interactions besides that. He's adjusting well in this new environment, but he much prefers the solitude and silence of singular jobs and tasks when he can think to himself and fend on threatening images that sometimes flash before his eyes in unwelcome visions.
He's taken a bit off guard when this stranger approaches him, bringing with her some questions. He looks up from his seat with eyes like molten silver. However, they burn with a calm intensity, rather than a burning heat. A sweet smile offsets the dull color, brightening them politely. He remembers this stranger, though she cannot be called a stranger now. Adelaide Todd. She's one of the people here that actually know what's going on, contrasting to Leigh, who is confused and displaced from his home and natural, solitary habitat.
While he mentally fully responded to her, it takes a moment for the black-haired young man to realize he lacked the verbal reply. "Sorry," he stammers at first, swallowing that nervousness he always gets before interacting with others. "Herb gathering? Of course. May I ask, in that case, where your dorm is?" he raises an inky black eyebrow in question, thinking back to the layout of the map. He does, after all, have a great memory.

Adelaide's eyes darted back to observe Brenna. Her roommate seemed disgruntled that Adelaide had ditched her to start a lively conversation. Besides, seeing how attached Brenna was to her books, it felt rude to interrupt or separate her from her books.. so when a chance to escape came, the best choice would be to go to another table under a pretence of seeking answers.
Looking back at Leigh, she stopped to remember a few details. Every level of the building had a statue of a scale, so she couldn't well tell Leigh to wait near the statue. Ah... that's it!"My dorm is right near the fountain. It will have a hyacinth as the door symbol to differentiate your dorms from mine!" She mentally congratulated herself on figuring out what she missed. She would also look over at Khara and waved, "Hi Khara! I hope the food isn't too horrible.."

Khara only waved back, as her head remained rested on the table. Her stomach was strangely churning now, but it wasn't so bad. The young woman just only stared at her pushed back food. I guess I'll just eat a little bit more...
Khara then grabbed her tray, and began to munch on it again. Though, it was more forced in doing so. The food tasted more and more disgusting at the moment now, and once again, she stopped eating. Pushing the tray back, it's like her stomach worsened. Her head once again rested on the table, while her hands were slightly cupped on her stomach.
Why did I eat more..?

"The food's that bad, eh? You have to dig down the main surface to get to the good stuff," advised the more experienced student as she eyed Khara's half-finished plate, shuddering slightly as she saw a piece of ham move. Observing her again, she would pick up on the female's discomfort and looked around the cafeteria, sighing as she spotted a jug of warm water. "Hold on, let me get something for you.."
Dashing over to the jug of warm water, she poured it's contents into a beige-coloured mug. She would then head to the cereal section and dump a huge lump of honey into the water, stirring the beverage in rhythmic strokes. Waiting for the honey to dissolve, she grabbed a small pack of chips as well for the girl.
Zipping past tables, the lightning elemental made great care of protecting the most of the mug while looking for evil table corners. "Here you go, this honey-water should soothe your discomforts~!" She would say as she finally handed Khara the warm beverage.

Leigh makes a mental note of Adelaide’s details, mapping out where he would go and how later on. Five o’clock, he remembers her saying. Easy enough, he thinks.
He breaks from his thoughts to observe the girl’s quick thinking. He supposes she would have to know solutions like that if the food is this gross everyday. He can admire that, though; he would have killed for solutions like that when he lived with Preston.

She shot Khara a small smile before turning back to Leigh, feeling slightly self-conscious from Leigh's heavy stare. He looked like he was analyzing her and even though she was used to that kind of treatment from the other trainers and mentors, having a fellow trainee stare her down sent chills down her back.
A bell rang in the distance, followed by an announcement signalling all to gather up their items and scoot to the training arena.
