This episode redeemed the entire season.
This is photographic proof that the artists know how to shade properly, and correspondingly, that sombra is terrible.
I still find trixie to be too full of herself.
That's why I love her
That faceplant at the end made me laugh. Then when Twilight fixes Pinkie's mouth at the end and it just shuts off before she can say anything, that had me going good.
I thought it was pretty cool that twilight bested her using illusions, which is what trixie is all about.
Well if she wasn't tripping out on power she may have noticed something. Heck, she didn't even beat her with illusions. All she did was make a "poof" thing happen each time and they just kept switching out ponies.
Well, not magical illusions, granted. Misdirection would be a better word I guess.
After all the stuff Twilight pulled on the first episode this season though, I figured she would have done better power wise.
Actually I think this episode highlighted the strength of the show's writing. Rather than brute-forcing a win, she out-thought her opponent, and chose the most logical and efficient path to victory. Not only is this exactly what would be expected of a master wizard, it's also in keeping with her personality. (Granted, she needed Zecora to show her the way - but overcoming challenges with the help of friends (which Trixie doesn't have) is a core message of the show, so that works as well.)
Also, keep in mind that Trixie was wearing what we can assume was a god-tier magic artifact. Age spells appear to be orders of magnitude beyond anything we've seen up to this point in the show (as Twilight pretty much says herself). Trixie was also able to conjure a forcefield many times larger and more powerful than any Twilight has managed without the Elements (it even blocked teleportation), and maintained it far longer.

It was an alright episode, in my opinion. I agree with Ross about the direction they took with the writing: if they had simply pulled a "Oh, well Twili's been training for this anyway, so... meh. She wins with a Spirit Bomb."
The final product is better than many of the possible outcomes, and I especially like the beginning bit with Trixie in the rain, storming into that shop, and bribing the shop keeper with bits. One of the more corny bits from the show in my opinion with 'Saddle Arabia.' Come on guys, I know you're running out of steam on re-naming places, but come on. Overall, I think they did a good job, however.
I have to admit, though, I was hoping for some more King Sombra in that episode. I mean, that amulet practically REEKED of him. Ah well, whatevs. Maybe there will be a LYRAAA episode soon~.

I hope sombra never comes back. Also, Lyra and Bonbon were in the background in one scene. Lyra was drinking a shake or soda of some kind, and it was adorable. And I'll never get tired of corny horse puns.

That meme makes no sense. Is candlejack hitting "submit" for you as he kidnaps you or something? WEAKSAUCE.
Like I was saying in my last post: I'm going to be semi-weary of the writing in season 3 for a while. ...Saddle Arabia. Heee.
So on a productive note, what would you guys like to see happen in the show?

Needs more angry cherry berry, she should be a garbage collector pony, and should be best buddies with daisy, the angry pots and pans salespony. So, nothing too specific.
