Matt
The last few hours had been a blur to me. I had heard booms and explosions. Perhaps fighting. It had all gone over my head. I sat under the cool and quiet shade of the tree, oblivious to any battle, so exhausted and sleep deprived, getting up seemed impossible. The thinking seemed to be impossible, and my mind wouldn't focus on any one thing. It had taken in everything before eventually going numb, moving my head around caused my world to blur in an array of colorful lights. I decided to myself. This is it. I had to sleep. Laying against the tree, I closed my eyes one more time to face the nightmares that seemed all too real.
Here in the dream, I had been awake. Alert. I had my senses again. I stood up from my spot and walked around. Nothing but the pitch of the void. This place had come to me all too often, disrupting my daily life. I frowned and walked around more. "Do you see it?" A voice had said to me. I blinked and my world changed again to my home. The same overcast Hell I had come to know over the past month. I frowned. I looked around for the voice and pulled out my sword. "Come out, devil." I said to hit. Only laughing ensued. "You don't threaten me here." The voice responded after recomposing itself. I blinked again and my world was on fire, corpses of the local kingdom men and women piled on the street, the vile stench of decomposition looming in the air. The streets pooled in blood. It was truly a grim sight. "Do you still remember?" I blinked and my mother appeared, only this was not my mother. It was something sinister. Something truly malevolent. My legs trembled. "Not such the brave warrior now, are we?" it said, with laughing following shortly thereafter. Her face had melted and she had resembled those on the street, lifeless and rotten to the core. I stood up straight and tall and held a straight face. When I blinked once more, my surroundings changed to that of the school. This place, too, was burning. Smokey and corrupted. I walked through the long winding street of the city, seeing fellow students and teachers, lining the sides of the roads, shops destroyed and on fire. As I walked up to the front of the school, I looked up and there he hung. Anthony. He swung gently in the infernal breeze, eyes lifeless and bloodied, his gaze staring into the red and yellow blazing yonder. Inside the school, more of the same sights. Bodies everywhere. There in front of me, Corrine. She seemed to have it worst of all. Her body impaled, covered in grime and blood of the remainder of what appeared to be a shortlived battle. Only her face remained pristine. A single tear had gone down my eye and rolled across my cheek. "This is your future." the voice had said. I had known it to be false, yet my senses told me it was true. "No." I had told it back. I took my sword and held it in front of me. As if agitated, a shadowy figure at appeared in front of me. "In my mind, I have control, and despite all odds, this is one place you may not ever own." I took my sword and sliced the head off of Corrine's illusion. "Here you have no power. Only cheap parlor tricks. What you did was dirty, and so I'll return the favor." I wiped off my cheek and smirked. I swung once again to the figure's neck. Then, it all went totally black. The solace of the void washed over me. My mind went blank. "...we shall...see." The voice whispered into nothing. From that point came pure, innocent, sleep.
Oddly enough, the moment the nightmares stopped was when Mortimar was killed. Perhaps the blows in both dream and physical form overwhelmed both planes of his essence. I had slept under the tree, cool breeze going through the branches and through my hair. Sweat lined my brow. I needed this badly, and I had earned it. I slept hard for the first time in what seemed like forever, I had missed the battle in reality, but I had won the war in my mind, and that's good enough for me. Plastered on my face that evening: one of sweet dreams and happy endings.
Anthony
I walked into the infirmary to once again tend those unfortunate enough to be injured. I wondered and worried where Matt was, for he had been missing all day. For now, I aided in every way I could. He would find me if he needed me. I frowned.
