Hey!
There's something I have been wondering about recently: Do you rather want to rp a fandom or with OC? About fandom, it could be anything. A series, movie, a certain ship that you like, a BL if you watch those, k-dramas, anything. If you do rp fandoms, what fandoms do you rp, and what fandoms interest you?
Personally, I don't mind rp'ing fandoms. Actually I have met quite a few people who said they couldn't, because the characters weren't their own, and I can very much see and understand that, but I might just have a different perspective on it. I enjoy rp'ing an already made character that I can develop through the rp with my rp partner, with ideas that we make together, while I also enjoy creating my own characters and their stories.
By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

To be honest, I do prefer roleplays with original characters, and to use my own original characters. While I do understand that people may prefer to write already existing characters, I mainly dislike this pressure to writing someone else's character to be correct or right. It's also the idea of playing a character that others have played before, except far better and with more skill.
If I do play fandoms, it's likely with fancharaters, rather than Canon characters. I used to be in Homestuck roleplay a ton, and I have had a bunch of fantrolls in fansessions, in a setting that was already set up beforehand.

I do understand that, and that is also what I have heard others say. Maybe I just don't care about that so much, haha xD
I prefer original settings/worlds because I like the freedom, and no arguments about stuff not being "in keeping with canon" lol.
I have done fandom rp before and there is an appeal there to the challenge of keeping things in canon and in keeping with the "feel" of the setting (one of the fandom rps I did was a kid's franchise and the main rule was nothing that wouldn't be okay in the actual series. So no "adult themes". Keeping things so pg was kinda fun when most of what I do is so dark and dingy and stuff lol)
Unfortunately that rp ended... very badly and it's rather put me off doing anything within that fandom since. Too much bad blood.
We weren't rping existing characters though, always ocs but within a fandom setting.
There's just too much to get wrong rping a character someone else wrote you know? I'd sooner not have that stress of getting it wrong. I'll always create fan characters, rather than playing a canon character.
Heck, we for a while lost a player in a big long term game and I ended up having to npc some of her characters due to their connection with mine and I HATED IT because I felt so shackled by what I could and couldn't do. "is this in character? is this okay?" and it made me not really want to play the character because I was too scared I was getting it all horribly wrong.
When it's MY character nobody can tell me i'm doing it wrong you know? And when it's MY univers/species or i've been involved in the world building nobody can tell me i'm wrong either HAH.
Most of the rps I do tend to be a rather loose universe that everyone adds their own bits to and fleshes out together through play. it works well, but gives us a lot of freedom to just fudge stuff as needed.
I also just really enjoy world building, character building and all that stuff so i'd rather create something whole cloth to indulge my obsessive need to create create and control every aspect of my character's backstory hahaha.

I RP as canon characters, but not in their own universes. The Gunvolt characters can fit freely in any universe, considering they are humanoid. Sometimes both OCs and canons can be fun and you can learn proper word building here.
There are allot of common misconceptions with this ordeal.

To me I use to do canon characters several years back but sadly I had several bad experiences with players that needless to say forced me into doing OC. Mostly do to the fact most canon players I've played with were very very strict and if I used a OC for a certain canon universe like say a popular tv show or video game I would face major backlash from canon experts who would then boot me out.
Now don't get me wrong everyone has their own play style but I love doing OC now mostly because I can be very creative and be more free to choose my own path and not have someone force a path that I do not want to go down.

I prefer OC Rp-ing, hands down.
I sorta live under a rock and hardly have enough time to get into new media and so even though there are some canon characters I can RP, I don't quite trust myself to keeping the true integrity of the characters. I always warn my few canon RP-ers in advance for any inconsistencies.
However, I do consider RP-ing canon characters as their original selves as a mark of respect to their original creators. I know some people won't agree with me but that's just how I feel.
I love diving deep into the backstories and psychological profiles of each character, and OC Rp-ing lets me do that. By extension, creating original worlds lets me create my own expansive lore that I can build down to the smallest detail, and I don't have to worry about inconsistency as much as I do when I'm researching for canon worlds.

TBH I don't like RPing as OCs, but I have one. Both sides can be creative. What I do dislike with canon Rpers is when they put too many HCs on the character and make them overly OOC.
I am fine with Rping with people's OCs. I am flexible.
