Do you model your RP characters after yourself or people you know? Or do you create them completely randomly?
If you base them off of yourself or people you know, two more questions.
1. What kinds of traits do you and your character share?
2. Is the character meant to be played as an extension of yourself? Or a separate person altogether.

I've never been one for self inserts, probably because I have really low self esteem and would sooner not be ME. I mean, in rp I can literally be anyone, why be me?
It's supposed to be an escape after all.
That said, i'm fairly sure subconsciously there must be some similar traits in characters. Most rpers have certain cliches they tend toward and certain traits.
A lot of mine are very smart and quite verbose. And I guess there's worse traits to overuse.
I have noticed I have a fair few misanthropes who would sooner not deal with people because they find people annoying and too much work though. I wonder if that's a subconscious projection of my own frustrations with humanity?
I do have at least 3 characters who have quite similar traits in that they're grumpy, anti social and deep down really just want to be happy and safe and comfortable.
It kinda bugs me that they're so similar so yeah, working on that.
I try very hard to keep my characters totally separate from me, I rp to escape and I find it too much stress if I can't detatch from what's going on in some way. Having a nice bit of distance between me and my characters helps keep ic and ooc totally separate.

Only OC I own is Champon. I'll gladly answer your survey.
Do you model your RP characters after yourself or people you know? Or do you create them completely randomly?
No. Champon is his own thing. I started development for him back in August with some friends. I am still ironing out his kinks. He is not based off me or even a SelfInsert. I am not overly fond of SI's in general.
1. What kinds of traits do you and your character share?
None. Champon is a happy go lucky child despite what happened to him. He's a pickpocket, a gunner and a witty child with a sense of adventure. I don't plunder pockets, etc.
2. Is the character meant to be played as an extension of yourself? Or a separate person altogether.
