He hesitated and then added, "My mother and I pretty much lived on our own when I turned fourteen--since my father was overbearing and, well, disinherited me. My brothers weren't much friendlier and took after my father and his...occupation." He rubbed the back of his neck. "Anyway, my mother died a few years ago and I've been out traveling since then, trying to find my own way in the world."

"It's the best life there is." she said, leaning back slightly.
Arien nodded. "I think so." His gaze flickered around the bar, as he sipped his ale. "How long are you planning on staying here?"
"I don't rightly know." she grinned. "I was just passing through, but since you dragged me in here..." She winked and sipped some of her water.
Arien had the decency to flush at least. "Oh, right. Sorry. I have the bad habit of being impulsive. It gets me into trouble sometimes." Well, most of the time if not all the time.
"I'm glad to have your company though."
"I'm glad to have your company though."
"Likewise." Eliza smiled.
