I would not want to ban bumping entirely, as one still needs to respond *occasionally* to their RP topic to keep it showing up in search results. If we put a hard limit on it, we end up with scenarios where someone still wants to advertise for players but has reached the limit on the number of times they can promote it, so they choose to just make a new version of the post entirely and restart the process. Then we end up with duplicates in the Find RP tool.
I just want to clarify, I'm not for banning the act of bumping. I'm against the word 'bump' being used as way to bump a topic, and would like to see it eradicated entirely. I'm 100% pro bumping topics with meaningful additions because it adds value. There is no circumstance wherein a meaningful bump can't be phrased in a more productive and informative manner after all. If you're bumping a topic because you're still looking for players, then it can be just said so. Even if it's still 'just a bump', it at least doesn't feel like a spammy bump, and shows that the OP is legit still interested and willing to tell us why.
Isn't that something that would blend seamlessly with a check for "bump" or "up"? Just ban that entirely and encourage people to phrase it to something more meaningful by default whether it's still on the front page or not?
That does make sense to me, but is more strict than I personally want to go at this time. Yes, it's best practice never to say bump, but not something that has so much impact (vs saying "still looking") that I think it warrants full-on enforcement. Discouragement is still where the bar makes sense to me.
I've just implemented the bump filter, which contains an explanation of what we'd prefer to see, and added a search box to the top of both LFRP forums. I'm curious to see what impact this will have over time.

I have noticed the search bar ! Thank you for the improvement

Fair enough! Thanks for hearing me out. I noticed the search bar too, I'm excited!
I can be scolded for not fully reading all replies, because I'm super tired.
I can also be scolded for somewhat hijacking this thread.
Firstly, I agree with Ryu here and am against massive or obsessive bumping. I think there are other sites I am a part of (not necessarily RP sites) that allow bumping (with a button) once per 24 hours, others that state you must wait till you are on page two, others that prevent spam bumping by not allowing anything less than..what..3 words to be posted? Yeah.
Something I would really love to see is a limit of topics created within a day or a certain ..topic...per day >< Like the "Looking for RP - Adults Only" (since that's where I usually look if I'm looking), there are some users that post like 6 or 12 different topics. I get that they might do this for organizational of OCD purposes on their end. I truly get that, however, it's rather irritating (at least to me) to see 234234234 different topics by ONE user, one right after the other.
I like the people who are all "So, I have some idea's, and here they are" and list them in one post instead of 20 different posts.
When I see this...(as in, the multiple different topics/threads started by one user - one right after another)...I sit back here and have the thought of grounding them from RPR for a bit.

Just a heads up, blocking people eliminates all their entries in the RP Finder.
Edit: also, consolidating unique RP requests into one topic is highly discouraged because it interferes with the RP Finder's ability to function properly, as per Kim's response on this topic earlier:
Kim wrote:
I actually discourage people from making "combined" RP ideas, as it makes the RP Finder tool less useful, which means fewer people will use it, which means page 1 real estate will be more meaningful, which means that more people will feel the need to bump.
Blocking individuals who post often and make it more difficult for you to browse the forum itself is one way to fix it, which isn't ideal, but it works. Ideally, you'd use the RP Finder anyway because it allows you to skip proposals that aren't catered to your search terms anyway.
However, I don't like blocking people entirely for this purpose myself. I don't want to never hear from them, I usually just don't want to see their LFRP posts show up in the Finder. Kim, is there a way that the "x" at the top of an RP Finder result can give you the option to ignore results from one specific person without blocking them entirely?

Making multiple topics is actually the encouraged way to post LFRP topics for different ideas, as Sanne just quoted me saying from earlier in the topic. Here's the direct link to my post on that so you don't have to read through the entire thread to find it: https://www.rprepository.com/community/forumthread.php?t=49845&p=1#3947077

This makes sense. I'll add it to my list of stuff to look into.
