This feels like a kind of out there suggestion, but it occurred to me that it would be helpful if there was an option on our profiles to make it so that people considered underage by the website can't message you. My profile strictly states 18+ and I've had a couple issues with people underage attempting to message me for RP anyway, even involving 18+ activities.

I know there are other people who are also uncomfortable/annoyed with this so I figured it might not hurt to mention. I understand this would create a big barrier between certain users, but there are also people who just don't interact with underage folk (like myself) so for me it wouldn't be an issue, and if it's a toggle option then not everyone would have to use it if they didn't want.
I feel like the opposite could also be good, too? For the Tykes who are uncomfortable with the opposite
I can see a need for this, yeah.

But my question is, why do you not interact with minors at all? Not all of them are after breaking the law by RPing smut. I mean I can understand not wanting to RP with them, because they might not be able to write skillfully enough, key word is MIGHT, but yeah.

Not all minors RP smut. However, I see that more on other places as DeviantArt where most do public smut and fetish related RPs and get punished for it. In my honest opinion, not all minors are unskilled at writing, considering I seen some people 17 and under write extremely well.

I can understand not RPing with a minor due to the R18 rule when it comes to interacting with others.

It's not that I don't think that minors are unskilled at writing. It's that I honestly just have no desire to interact with people that are underage on the website, and I dislike when I get messages asking for RP even though my profile clearly states 18+. I've spoken with other adults who feel the same way, which is the reason I decided to post my thoughts here.

My reasoning (since I am also an adult who does not roleplay with people under 18+) is that the majority of my characters have lifestyles and...'hobbies'...that I would consider having an R or NC-17 rating, or otherwise not minor-friendly, and the RP plots I get involved with tend to play off of those lifestyles and hobbies. And no, I am not interested in censoring my characters just so they can interact with a minors' characters. It's...creatively stifling and exhausting to do, at least for me.

There's also always a liability issue when minors get involved, and I want to be assured that some parent isn't going to find their kid's RP threads at some point and find something they don't like. Their kid isn't going to be the only one getting in trouble for that, and I don't care to get into that kind of drama or legal trouble.

So to keep things clean and problem-free (relatively)...I just stick to RPing with other adults!

In a nutshell: +1 this!
I can kind of understand why people might not want to roleplay with minors, but to straight up make it where none can PM you? That's extreme. Because you are essentially blocking everyone under the age of 18, based purely on their age rather than personality or how they conduct themselves on the forums. They cannot even wish you a happy birthday.
A feature like this is not needed- besides, you stated that minors messaged you for roleplay despite you have warnings on your profile. That's not something that everyone else should be punished for. They crossed a line there, so yes, block them. Not everyone else.

When you block someone, usually that means that person has done something wrong that has upsetted you. To be blocked because of my age, it's as if I am in the wrong because I wasn't born earlier. So please, Kim, don't make this a thing.

This is in the context of PMs. It wouldn't affect speaking to minors anywhere public on the forums, it would just prevent them from PMing you if you didn't want them to. And as I said, it doesn't have to be something forced on everyone, it could be an option.

Also, I'm not friends with people who are underage so why would they PM me saying happy birthday?
Because people do that. They do wish people happy birthday on this site, whether friended or not. That's how people make friends in the first place- talking to strangers. People PM others for many reasons, whether they know them personally or not. Heck, I was even thinking of asking you how your foot was going. People talk a lot on and off of this site, and sometimes talk together through private messaging just because they can. Connections do happen- but you would severely limit this connection by allowing a feature like this.

I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree, then. I understand where you're coming from and I'm not gonna be upset if it's not a feature that gets implemented. It was just a thought that myself and a few other adults had.
I think it's something that could function for mutual protection. There are warnings on this site about rping smut with minors, it's like a layer of protection between yourself and getting into legal trouble.

I understand both positions, but I would like to support SinDragon, and it's only because I do believe it's more important that even "under 18" can interact with older people in a way, maybe create a feature where you can "validate" a post (like the categories in Horror- Adventures, etc) which state " Asking to RP", and show the user profil next to it, if he's 18+. Guys, I feel this debate is like the kind "nobody is wrong, nobody is right", and pleasing everyone seems really hard.

I feel censoring it's too extreme, it's banning ANY interaction between under 18 and upper eighteen, and this is a plain no-no for me. There is a problem along here in not willing to even be able to pm someone. (taht didn't wrong you in any way.) what happend if you see the need for some comfort, for example, in someone under 18, but you had this feature?
Banning any possibility is a no, but making the possibility and giving the habit to make a distinction between the Pm that just friendly people who which to talk to you (and yes, It happens), and the ones who sends you a demand for rp'ing with them.

I feel the world is exhausting.

Plus, I like to add , not even under 18 will pm you to roleplay SMUT, when you make the point it displease you because of fearing law pursuits, there isn't any issue when you don't do anything that POSSIBLY (not even surely do) makes you in trouble.
Like every roleplay, don't partake in something you're not willing to.

As I said, I understand the argument against and I won't be upset if it's not something that happens. But I feel like I need to emphasise that I'm not wanting to ban ANY interaction whatsoever. People seem to be under the impression that I never want to see a minor on the site at all, and that I want this option forced on everyone.

I don't want this to be forced on everyone, and I do still want to be able to speak to everyone on the public forums. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable seeking comfort or something from someone underage, I don't speak to people underage, and I don't really want people underage PMing me. It's just me. And it would be something you could turn on/off not something that is permanently implemented.

(It was the other way, giving comfort not seeking)

I agree with you before that, nothing to say that doesn't go in this way.

As for the rest I'm really too dead to speak english right now. x')

I'll be back, ;) It's way past curfew time where I'm at, and I my brain would like to get to sleep. xD

See' ;)

Just - I understand, but still. I don't feel it's the good option, I didn't say we should create an thing/option to ease this. 'Night. 😉

Blocking someone from interacting with you on RPR means they can't PM you, can't reply to any forum topic you created and can't join a group you're a founder of.

Unless Kim creates an entirely separate block system that blocks only minors, the effects would pretty much be effectively cutting communication with half the memberbase entirely outside of PMs.
What Khaellar proposes would only keep a minor from PMing a person who had toggled the option.

Like I said, I'm not sure if it's possible or what kind of work it would take. But since many of our members are adults, and since many people on here have an interest in rping smut, it would be a feature that might prevent legal issues.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that Kim had to create a new/different block system, or spend a lot of time reworking the existing one.

I'm not sure how much it would help in preventing legal issues. Someone can still technically sign up with a fake birthday and get around it. You're never 100% certain that the person you're talking to through the anonymity of the internet is who they say they are. What helps most in preventing legal issues is to immediately block and report a person to Kim if you find out they're going by the wrong age (which works both ways, adults posing as minors and minors posing as adults). Ceasing contact and reporting to the proper channels covers your butt a LOT in the case of accidental inappropriate interaction with someone.

I do think the blocking idea would be a disaster IMO. Considering Sanne did point out that people can lie about their ages, which can be rather messy.
khaellar Topic Starter

yeah, I don't know anything about websites so I hadn't had a clue of what it would entail to implement. to be honest I'm not fussed about it not being possible/too hard to deal with. I was mostly getting frustrated with how my point seemed to be misconstrued XD. it's no big deal, though.

thanks everyone for your input, I don't think this will happen, but it was fun to bounce the idea around, anyway.
Sanne Moderator

Well, Kim has yet to give her input. :) It's always good for people to put their 2 cents in so she can see what people want and why they want it. There are quite a few features in effect now that Kim initially turned down or postponed development on.
