hi, this is honestly pretty small considering the fact that there's already a warning system in place, but i feel like there could be..a scale, or something? for example, i've gone to profiles with sexuality warnings thinking there would just be idk. small mentions of sexual situations. but what's on the profile is full-sized hentai pictures and it's like wow okay because i Don't really want to see that at all.
and on my own side of things, with my character avery, i have his profile flagged for violence for kinda obvious reasons once you look at it. but i feel like "violence" is just pretty vague and i could probably get more in depth with it (like "contains descriptions of gore" and "mentions of suicide", or something)

///a bit of an add on idea is maybe how the characters have genre tags?? Something like that maybe? Especially with the whole 'Make your own tag' bit
I don't know how exactly this would work, but I agree with Mejasoulfruit, where you can have like a little 'tag' that clarifies. Because I understand, I'm an adult and I've clicked on pages before that were marked mature but it was stuff that I could completely handle. On the other hand, I've also clicked on pages that have been marked as mature, went onto it and found very graphic pictures that I could have lived without seeing - like, I just wanted to know about the character, I didn't want to see that much of them. xD
It would be a neat feature to somehow be able to say 'mild gore', or 'extreme graphical nature', or something.

This would be nice to see. Sometimes some people use the mature tag for pictures of kissing and sometimes it's full on... well, it's VERY adult oriented lol.
Perhaps a checkbox system? So if I check 'mature / nsfw' maybe give me different checkboxes for what that might entail? That way if I look at another person's profile I can see mature - includes 'thing, thing, other thing' as to see a bit more specific what I should be expecting when I look at that profile?
Good idea though. :> +1

I wouldn't mind, but the only flaw I can see with this is that whether or not something is tagged for something specific beyond 'hey there's mature stuff going on here' is that it relies on the user to accurately tag it in the first place, which doesn't always happen.
The reason you see mild non-issue stuff being tagged for things like violence, when there's no actual violence that a moderator would tag it for, is because people make their own best guesses on what is too much outside of the strict defined stuff . Like nipples or genitals, they ALWAYS require a tag, but at a member's own discretion they may also want to tag a profile for sexual content because they have a SFW pinup pose of their character that is steamy but not sexual tag steamy. Sometimes people already tag their profiles because said content might be present in the future even if it isn't there right now. I also know of users who tag a profile because they roleplay specific content, even though the profile doesn't have any of said content on it itself.
So I have no strong feelings on this either way, just thought it would be interesting to put this info here for consideration! Would this option be useful knowing that plenty of people wouldn't properly use it to begin with?

I like this idea. Sanne raises a lot of the same questions that I would have, but I'll give it some more thought.
I'm someone who likes tagging things for the simple fact that I'll include those characters in those situations, but their profiles won't contain anything of the sort that requires that tag. I think it'd be interesting if the tags could possibly include something to accommodate that for the users, like myself, that use the tags in that way.
I'm all for more in-depth tags, or tags that give a little more specification on what the tag is being used for generally. Even if it becomes a "hover over" type of feature for computer users. Like the "titles" for those little symbols reading more than just
"sexuality warning"
I think it could be useful to utilize the titles to help explain what it's being used for. Like a little "tic" box that let's you say "sexual content on page"
"sexual content in roleplays"
??Maybe?
Just a little idea.

Perhaps not exactly the same - but in the same general category...
An idea I've felt like throwing down recently is to have different content settings on mobile. While I don't mind seeing NSFW content at home, I do have qualms about seeing NSFW content on my phone, where I may actually be at W. More than once I've been in a public place and the contents on a profile have been suddenly and surprisingly explicit!

I feel the same way except I use RPR on a desktop at school, so restricting this option to mobile wouldn't be useful to me. (Also since settings don't rely on the device you're browsing but are stored in the database, I don't know if that would be a useful way to trigger this functionality technically?)
Maybe we can have an easier way to toggle warnings for x amount of time without having to dive into the settings every time? Like "Toggle SFW mode" or something that is easily accessible from the home page and/or menu, and it defaults temporarily to a fully SFW setup until it's toggled back to original settings. Maybe it could be shown underneath the name/inbox links at the top of each page and in the login/logout section on mobile.
Even if not always properly used, it can only be beneficial to have this. It would help visitors make more of an informed decision before peeking in, as well as providing more peace of mind for those who are concerned that having the blanket labels on their profiles might paint a wrong impression, as sexual could be anything from tasteful nudity to smut.
How to provide the option for more detail is what I'm unsure about. If there were check boxes as DarkCrow suggests then I'd imagine the site's general rating guidelines will have to be broken down more specifically, while on the other hand fully customizable options might lead to people being too descriptive.

One question I do have is, would this be enforced by moderators then? I imagine that profiles would still only need to be tagged with one of the big 3's as they are now, but that any additional tags wouldn't be enforced and up to user discretion.

I was imagining the same. Additional tags would just be optional clarification for the benefit of other users.
Oh my, I should hope it's not another thing we would have to keep an eye on!
"Hi, we think you need ____ elaboration instead of _____ elaboration."
Still, I wouldn't be against this sort of added explanation. Although I am numb to a lot of things around here just by nature of what I do, there are times where I wander into a character profile with warnings and go "Oh... thaaaaat's not what I was expecting at all!"
Because I'm a human, and that's what we do.
For example, I am totally OK with seeing heavier violence, but I may not be OK on a particular day wandering right in to a profile that shows somebody's missing toenail. Eeeuugh that made my skin crawl just writing that sentence! If the violence warning elaborated to say something about a missing limb/digit/vital organ, I could at least mentally prep myself before clicking.
Again, as a moderator, I have to see and be accustom to a whole range of things the average person probably doesn't have to see, but I totally get the appeal of elaborated warnings! I Imagine this could be optional, and user determined from a drop down selection, so users wouldn't get in trouble with us if they opted to only use the original three warning tags.

Oh geez, the elaborations would HAVE to be optional, the mods can't be responsible for mandating it.
I'm all for it being an optional elaboration, totally up to the communities responsibility to maintain it. I'm aware that there'd be users who still wouldn't use the feature properly, but with the options spelled out to them quite well, it shouldn't be hard for community members to handle it on their own.
I'd love to be able to explain my reasons behind my use for those warnings with a simple option like this if possible.

I figured as much! Just making sure.

That actually made me realize that something like this could double function as a trigger warning of sorts. I'm okay with most themes, but one thing that I need to mentally prepare for is the mention or depiction of suicide - something which would be fine tagged under the violence warning, but not something I'd typically think of initially.
The more I think about this, the more I like the option to add like, 5 additional tags for content that are not preset but can be filled out by users manually.
I can see the appeal for a hover tooltip like was suggested before, but it's impractical (and not what the title attribute is designed for code wise). Maybe when we have the warning page "There be dragons here", we can just have a list of the used tags?

The character John Johnson may have sexual content, violent content, and language that may make your ears burn on his site.
You may find the following things if you proceed:
You may find the following things if you proceed:
- Genitals
- Excessive blood
- Slurs
The only thing that this would bring about is also the need for mods to regulate the language in these tags for as far as it can't be done automatically.
A selection of premade tags to choose from might be best then? My doubt there was that making a list breaking down the three content types may imply it is exhaustive when it's not. I know the ratings guidelines are left intentionally vague, particularly the section on violence. Still, simply having the option to provide more specifics sounds great.
