Forums » RP Discussion » New badguy OC... opinions on backstory idea?

Okay, So I recently made a new OC.
Raidra here.

Anyhows, for his backstory... I was thinking to try something outside the box.

Instead of the usual angst-ridden whiny tragic typical villain past...

I was thinking of having him have a perfect life. So perfect however, that it drove him to insanity.

What do you guys think of my madness? Too crazy? Or kinda a fun twist on things?
I think that'd be totally awesome!
So...twisted. Just twisted enough to work.
Doooo iiiiiiiit.

There's no reason at all that villains (or anyone) has to have a whiny angst ridden tragic past, and I am totally on board with trying new things. :)

There's PLENTY of examples of people who grew up in the lap of luxury and never quite learned regard for other people and end up being capable of callously ordering the deaths of others because they inconvenienced them, so I think you can totally get away with it. It doesn't even require overt "insanity."

I think, as with any story ever written, it's less about trying to be "unique" and more about how the nitty gritty details are executed.

Thank you all for the opinions! I will end up doing so then.
Ha ha. Trying to get out of my rutt here.

And thank you Kim for the examples. :3.

Or, there's believing that their actions are "right", even if they aren't. Or something done in the line of duty, or on order, that gradually ingrains in the mind to being the best thing to do in that circumstance.
I like your idea :)

ha ha. Well I typed out a general backstory for him. It's simple and like a sweet little fairytale.
Minus the murder and the fact of his sick twisted mindgames because they're 'super duper fun<3'.

Wil Wheaton, when asked about playing a bad guy said "A villain is the hero of his own story."

When someone can have everything, I have noticed they tend to turn to less wholesome activities because everything else is boring. So it makes sense to me that someone with a perfect life might not be a perfect individual.

So true, so very true.
Thank you very much for the input. :3
You could make him like that one dude from the boondocks on adult swim. Guy is the son of a greed crazed multi millionaire and he has a nice house car etc but still goes around robbing banks (That ironically his dad owns so the bank employees are always like 'hey aren't you gonna ask me to take you to the vault?') and because everyone knows his dad he always gets away with it though he claims he just can't be caught.

Ha ha. That's hilarious. But I already typed out his bio.
The way I did it made me laugh a bit. I have to admit, he's my new favorite character. I just need a good chance to play him.

That is one awesome bad guy.
I recently made a new character recently to be a bad guy, and he didn't have a bad life or anything for his past. Actually, he was nobility and was raised with much love and affection... He just kills because... well, he loves doing it. I like the idea of bad guys doing things 'just because they can', not because they have some deep seeded emotional trauma or whatever.

It makes it very interesting, and much more fun to play when you have a character like that, in my opinion.

I am personally a big fan of "FOR THE EVULZ" bad guys. I mean, I have a character who is pretty much a homicidal madman just because he thinks the world is stupid and absurd (FOR THE EVULZ). Others include a chick who lusts for power (FOR THE... powarz?), a demon who does stuff for no apparent reason (FOR THE EVULZ), and a guy whose mind was a little... touched by the way people reacted to his physical appearance (FOR THE... well, actually no).
