"Welcome, recruits! I am SSG Hummel, and I am here to guide you as we prepare for an all out war to protect Earth. You were chosen because, after an exhaustive search on the Imperial Army's part, you were all found to have a unique soul that contains what is called the Dragon Crystal. This crystal is unique in the way that it allows you to tame and form a bond with a dragon. To help this process, I have engineered technology known as the Halo Communicator. As you can see, I am wearing a visor made of energy. This energy is on the same wave as the Dragon you have been paired with, and this visor is the communicator. It also amplifies your Dragons abilities and allows you to use them as well, in a limited scope for now. These abilities differ between dragons, and thus between you all. The abilities are as follows: Earth/Metal, Fire, Air, Water/Ice, Crystal. Each user will also receive the ability to use telekinesis and telepathy. If you remove the Halo Communicator, however, you will not be able to use these abilities... Now, who's ready to start?"
Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.

Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
