Hey there!

I know nothing about laptops, which is why I need some help. Soon I will have to buy a new laptop, but the money is limited, so I need to get the best I can for the money. The laptop will be used for studying, and the only game I will be playing on it is Sims 4. I would like to be able to play it without laptop mode on, that's my only request. And yes, I know Sims 4 plays a lot better on better processors and graphics, but this is all I can do.

I have done research but can never get a concrete answer:
AMD Quad-Core processor or Intel Core i3 processor - Which is better?
AMD Raedon, let's say R7, or Intel HD graphics, let's say 4000 - Which is better?

Some people have said that a laptop with AMD processor and graphics are fine, but some have said they would recommend to avoid it and go for Intel instead. So, which is better? What is the difference?
From what I can read, you want a laptop that can run Sims 4 without laptop mode on, and a laptop that can be used for studying.
Taking the first question:
AMD Quad-Core processor VS. Intel Core i3 processor
AMD has a better GPU performance than the i3, and therefore the Sims 4 game should be able to run more smooth on the AMD processor. BUT the AMD processor burns a lot of power, which can be very annoying with your request of "no laptop mode on". But either way, I would never recommend a Intel Core i3 processor for gaming, because your experience (from my perspective) with gaming, will most likely disappoint you if you go with an i3 processor. i3 processors are good for studying purposes, but not a good idea for gaming purposes.
Go for the AMD if you want Sims 4 to run more smooth, but the con is that your battery life will be pretty limited, and you'll probably need to plug your laptop in when playing Sims.

I'm not sure if you meant the Intel HD graphics 4000, not 400. I'm not familiar with the 400, never heard of it, so woops. I can't answer that question, sorry.

I would always recommend AT LEAST intel i5 processor, but that's my personal opinion and needs for my gaming experiences and so on. But since your wallet is limited, I'd probably go for the AMD Quad-Core processor, even though the battery life is a con. If it wasn't for the Sims 4 requirement, I'd go for the i3, as it's more suitable for schoolwork than graphics/gaming.

I'd recommend an intel core i5 processor at anytime. Maybe you could try to cut down some of the requirements, to see if you could afford an i5? The i5's have been a run-to for me, when wallet's low, but I think you'd be more happy with an i5, than an i3.

Sorry, I wrote wrong about the graphics, it was supposed to be 4000, but it's honestly confusing to me because there are so many, hahaha xD

But thank you very much for the reply! About the battery, it won't be a problem for me at all.
I do want one with i5 instead, and have actually tried to find one, but whenever I do, there's always the con of there only being 4GB of RAM, and/or only 128 GB of space.

But I'm in general just talking about any Intel HD Graphics, what the difference between them and the AMD Raedon graphics are.
From what I know, the AMD graphics are okay on lowest settings, but I'm not 100% sure. You could try looking for reviews on youtube, and how the graphics look like in-game.

Thanks, I'll do that.
