So recently I had been researching my IRL name origins and I have found something interesting that I would like to discuss with those who are willing.

So my name's Latin origin is Agustus, which is actually the name of the first Roman emperor. Now fans of the fat series I have checked and there is sadly no fate version of him. He also happens to be compared to Alexander the great at times, but the main difference between the 2 that everyone agrees with is that where good old Alex the half decent was a better conquer, Agustus was a far better overall ruler and politician. my name also means Venerable, which means something that has gained much respect my way of reputation.

Now tell me your thoughts in the comments below, and also what is your name's origin? I am curious and want to get the discussion going.

Wow, I never knew that Agustus would have such great of a translation. My fiance's middle name is Augusta because he's part Italian, so I'm willing to share that with him.

To my name, Nouran (Nur-ran) is a Persian name derived from Arabic meaning "radiant" or "glowing", and it figuratively translates to beautiful. It is also derived from the Arabic word "Noor" which is what my family calls me meaning "holy light" Arabic isn't my native language, but Nouran translated in my native language directly becomes "Queen of Light". "Noor" is the light prefix and Ran becomes "Rani" meaning Queen.

very interesting, the really interesting thing is my first name, Bastian is the German version of Agustus, and i always wonder how it got from this to that.

also my family name Dalton comes from the words De(which all French last names at the time had it) and Autun which refers to a place near rivers or hills. it also is said that the name started when a Frenchman married the king's daughter in secreate and retreated to Ireland so save themselves from the king... also autun is short for Augustodunum, which is a place in france and is a compound of Agustus and Dun(which is a Gaulish word for Hill and fort)
My real name is the Irish form of William.

Ah this is cool :)

My name is Ruslan, which is the Russian variant of Arslan, meaning lion. I was named after my mother who is Ruslana.

So, not as cool as you guys ^^;
I abore name meanings, 98 % of my characters i base around the meaning of the name

But my name

Keely is almost an Irish female name – at least we know it was probably inspired by one. For instance, the Irish name Keela comes from the Gaelic “cadhla” meaning “beautiful, graceful”, but mostly in the sense of a rare beauty, as in girl “so beautiful that only poets can describe her.”
I'm a little jealous, A names usually have interesting backgrounds like that.

Since Sweetyceltic brought up the Irish, I'm just going to use that as a segue into gaelic and the oddly boring origins of my name. My name is Ian and it is one of many gaelic forms of the name John, so I suppose by transitive property my name mean "God is gracious."

My last name, which is my dad's name, is Azhar. It comes from Persian mythology of a great, merciful king who ruled many lands.

tats interesting
Haaa! Funny you mention good ol' Alexander, since my name's a variant of that! Allegedly Alexander is the latin version of Alexandros which translates to "defending men." And here I was thinking my name didn't mean anything.

lol cool
My first and middle name translate to Victory of the People and Venerable: Nicholas Sébastien. Everywhere in public I got by Sébastien, but when my husband gets angry enough he'll yell "Nicholas!" XD

Sébastien is of French origin, and Nicholas is of Greek origin.

LOL i Have the German version of your last name as my first name
My real name means "supplanter." Which is someone who takes over the place of someone else. It's associated with usurping thrones and governments.
Well, I was named after a song, but for actual origins... my name is a feminization of a male name that started out as a surname that refers to a hill covered in particularly abundant weeds. Woo.

Something else relevant that amuses me, though... I haven't bothered to confirm it, but supposedly the surnames of my dad's biological parents originally mean "the unknown" and "the fool." This would make my dad The Unknown Fool, and me too by proxy.

Lawl. It's probably supposed to be something like "grim" or something else referring to being serious and grounded (not prone to frivolity) or meant to imply self-sacrifice with that loyalty. Still though, that's pretty great.
First name: Latin origin, symbol of honour and victory.

Middle name: Highland Scottish clan, whos motto is 'Touch not the cat but a glove.' Translated it's a reference to the historically violent nature of the clan, and was a metaphorical warning to other clans not to meddle in their affairs.

Surname: A sept (branch) of the clan my middle name is. Anglo-Saxton origin despite long being born in Scotland. Derived from the latin meaning for 'priest', denoted a member of a religious order, or a scholar or scribe.

So I'm a learned warrior. XD Haha.

It's quite funny because I always personally translated my clan's motto as a reference to allergies/ hayfever which is strife in my family. Guess that can be a secondary meaning in my case!
