Locks have a bunch of very small metal pieces that have to be perfectly crafted, unable to be done by primitive craftsmen. Giant metal cage doors are easy to forge, just at a cost of a lot of metal.//

Think of a medieval castle. Locks werent even a thing then, but the entrance to the castle was a giant metal door lifted by a pulley system//
