Fifty years back, monsters began to infest the world. Humans thought them undiscovered species at first, considering them much like the peculiarities of the natural world. This was quickly found false when magic was discovered.
Magic, hidden beneath the surface and believed as myth, came surging back into the open, although not all could use magic.
Runesmakers, those who could naturally channel magic into physical objects, became sought after to build monster-repellent domes around cities, towns, and farmers.
Those who could not naturally channel magic but were magic-inclined, found that these new monsters were made of foreign, magical minerals, minerals that could be refined into ingredients for medication and weaponry. Those who chose this route chose the name Magitechies.
Despite the resiliency of humans, the monsters continued to infest and consume the world around them, pushing back humans. Each country did what they could, but found themselves outmatched.
Lux was brought into this chaos. Seemingly overnight, this new company began to sell themselves to countries as a supplemental force. Their offers were eagerly taken. Lux's legions of well-trained and equipped mercenaries and a young but robust R&D department for both Runesmakers and magic-inclined, Lux was an attractive offer despite their high fees. Newer companies were bought out by Lux, the brightest and best brought into Lux.

tl;dr there are monsters, come kill monsters and forge them into magic weapons. That being said combat will be there if sought out, but I'm interested in fleshing the world around it.
The world is set slightly ahead of modern times but nothing extreme. I'd prefer your character be a part of Lux or have ties to Lux.
You'll be interacting with either Della or Victor or any other characters of mine set in this world.

Magic is fairly common. Players and NPCs important to the tale may have it. Mistborn.
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
Combat is woven into the storyline and could come to the forefront if the characters seek it out.
