Yeah so I just got two messages from people that have me blocked. Anyways to stop these people from messaging me?
RedLantern

Can't you block them for now?
Sanne Moderator

You'll have to block them yourself. Since these people could have blocked an anonymous alt of yours and not known it was you, it's a huge privacy risk to auto-block them from messaging you after they did that, unfortunately.
RedLantern

I fear I didn't understood the answer of Sanne, someone explain it to me?
Essentially, Sanne's saying that if they blocked an anonymous character and messaged the person behind that character, being stopped from messaging them would just give away the anonymous part of that character. If that made sense.

I myself understand the reason behind that, but at the same time, it might not be for the best. :/

I'm probably slow on this, but: How is it a huge privacy risk, to auto-block people from messaging a person after they blocked said person they've messaged?
If they can block an alt, and I get that it is an anonymous separated from your writer's profile for whatever reason, but if you cannot reply to a blocked person's forum threads, why should you be allowed to message them? I know it can give 'the game away' considering the writer's identity, but there are hundreds upon thousands of anon characters. If that happened to me after messaging someone, I'd just assume they were a tight ... butt.

But I will say it again; this raises a question of why are they allowed to contact you in the first place if they have blocked any part of you? If you can't even reply to a forum thread of a blocked person, why be allowed to message them, blocked anon-characters or no?

See, I agree with this myself. You would have blocked them for a reason- keeping people in the dark for this stuff isn't that great of an idea.

I second Demi's point. If someone has you blocked, they should NOT be able to contact you in any way, shape, or form. Same goes in reverse. Period.

But if I have not blocked them, but they have an alt of mine or my main handle, they should NOT be allowed to message me.. I mean I have no care for what reason they have me blocked, but it really don't mean i want to have to get a request to rp from someone that has blocked me then go to message them just to find out they have me blocked. It really is a waste of time on both ends.

I have 50 anonymous alts. Someone I don't have blocked can technically block suspected alts one by one, then try to message me (from their anon alts too with nice messages so there'd be no reason for me to block them and hinder this process). If they block an anon alt of mine and only THEN aren't able to message me, they can, without my knowledge, figure out every single one of my 50 anonymous alts without my consent. Even a single alt being discovered this way is a breach of privacy and negates the anonymous feature by default because it wouldn't be anonymous anymore.

So yes, this is a huge privacy risk, with potential for incredible harassment with damage done that cannot be undone. Blocking them is not going to undo the fact they will be able to release all of my anon alts they found. Kim can delete such messages and ban them, but she can't undo knowledge in people's minds. Once outed, we're outed forever until we delete the alts, basically. Just because the site is big with lots of alts doesn't mean someone can't do extensive damage.

I agree from a moral standpoint that people who block you shouldn't be able to get in touch with you, but on the other hand how do you know they know they blocked you? They could have blocked your anon alt and not realized it was you, so it wouldn't make sense for them to be unable to message your public identity. And that's the whole point about preserving your privacy to begin with.

Well it is not really fair, and they messaged one of my anon characters. So they would have no way to know It was me. The point is, I understand what you mean, but its just as much as a privacy violation for me to know who has me blocked if I try and return that message and they have me blocked because I will know the name of the person who has me blocked. This is a two way street on that subject, but it still remains that they would have no way to know which anon of mine they have blocked one of them, and there is no way to know unless they actively unblock and re-block people to find out the public name IF they even have any idea of who they are. Besides, I have never perma blocked anyone but one person, so any one I have blocked I have lifted after a few days.

I personally would not waste my time trying to figure out who's anon is connected to their main handle. that is petty and highly unlikely that anyone on this site would stoop to that unless they are trying to stalk someone. I do not really care for what reason people have me blocked, the fact is they should not be allowed to message me if they have me blocked. After all they could just recycle the 'This person could have you blocked' message they they use when you try to message someone that you have blocked. NO names have to be mentioned in any way shape or form.
Just out of curiosity, I was under the impression that you cannot receive a message from someone you have blocked, via their player profile or anon characters. In this case, wouldn't the offender (the blocker) not be able to receive any incoming messages from Arkavious?

they can not receive messages from me, but they can still message my anons. As I stated above, I do not have the people blocked on my end, because I believe that every one should be given a second chance, and a chance to make things right. I know that some people do not think that way, but I do not have them blocked, nor do I intend to block them.
I may be misunderstanding something here but-- I was under the impression if I block someone they will not be able to contact me at all. I do not like the idea of being harassed by anon characters or them trying to sneak rp with me with an anon character after I already blocked them for whatever reason. To go through and try and figure out if its them or not seems silly and may potentially get innocent people blocked because I thought they were so and so.

I think it’s about *you* writing to an anonymous character belonging to a person that *you* blocked. Instead of getting a message saying “you can’t write to this person because you’ve blocked them,” what happens is that they get your message but are unable to reply because they’re blocked by you. I think :-)

What happened is I posted a RP request on an Anon character. Two people who both have me blocked sent me a PM but they have me blocked. I am able to see the pm and Read it, but I am unable to message them back.

I’m definitely with Sanne on this one. It would be a privacy risk and I can think of ways of exploiting it, even with the huge number of characters that are on this site. I would prefer for it to remain unexploitable.

Arkavious: How big an issue is being messaged by someone you can’t reply? Do you find out before, or after you’ve typed up a message and hit ‘send’? I understand it would be really annoying if this were the latter case. But it would also be relatively easy to solve.

I find out after. its kind of a pain in the ass to type out a paragraph or two, trying to explain something more then to hit send and get "This person has you blocked" in return. If you can not message the, then they sure as hell should not be able to message you. i might not be a big deal to you or some others, but I find it annoying to spend MY time typing out something to them, putting effort into what I am trying to say just to find out I can not message them because they have me blocked in some manner.
