I dunno. I thought it might be useful. I sure would use it. Does anyone else think it should be added to a 'eventually do this' list?
Its just a minor nitpicky thing I wish we had. Of course I do understand that there are other more importent things to sort out, but ya know...is it a consideration at least?
If this has already been addressed I apologize.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Would you need both players to consent?
It could always be that it would be crushes, and if the other person declared them a crush too then it would change to lovers..?

Yes exactly@kitten
I really like this idea. To be frank, every time I click on the Connect+ option I look for a lovers option, even when not relevant, but simply because it seems as though it's missing from the list.
With romance being such a large genre and having such a wonderful option of the Connect+ already established, it seems wise to use it to its full potential.
However, I wouldn't go so far as crushes. I think Lovers is a concise enough distinction. And if not, then that dreaded term of 'friendzone' or in this case Friends, would work as the fall back if both people do not mutual mark each other as Lovers.

For me personally, someone considered a significant other (I don't like the term lovers for my own personal beliefs of what the word 'means') I put them under 'family' because I'd consider them as such.

Fair, 'Lovers' is kind of an awkward term for me to. But that being said it could read simply Character A and Character B are "In a Relationship". I see your point of being considered family, but if you're dating someone for 3 months, it sort of looks odd to suddenly not be family with them anymore. I mean, disowning a parent or a sibling is a huge undertaking and a completely different scenario than breaking up with someone. And there is a difference between dating and actually marrying someone too.
I think this would be a wonderful addition. Honestly anything we can use to indicate different relationships between our characters is nice, but in particular I sure would love to see a 'in a relationship with x' option.
You can glean so much from these things and I think it just adds a layer of depth to our characters. We can build webs of family and rivals and lovers with this system and I think we should embrace that option.

I am on the bandwagon for this.
Right now my female elf (Imperfect Beauty) is just friends with a childhood friend, whom she did try to date at one point. Currently, this is what I have to explain my OC's relation to my friend's OC: "Childhood friend, and first lover, of Falathiel, though it's uncertain where they stand now."
IF and that is a very big if, our character's become taken by one another, I'd like to be able to indicate who she is taken by. Sure, I could simply link the person's profile onto my elf's page. But how often do people fully read what is on a character page?
And I also agree with Josephine: Anything we can use to indicate different relationships between characters would be fantastic. Like a "currently seeing/dating someone" would be nice. Let people know that a specific character is interested in someone.
Just my extra two cents on all this.

I guess I'm the minority. As someone who does AU for all of my stories, I would not need this. I think if one were that serious about having their significant other listed on their profile then they would simply link them.

I'm mostly AU as well these days. Just that on a rare occasion, I would want to be able to say a specific OC of mine is taken. I think, in opinion only, that simply linking a person's page, is boring. I mean I have done it before back on RPG, as has my rp partner.

You and your damn pokes.

I don't think I would use this option very much because I write many roleplays, with romance being the main direction of the story, and I don't make my characters exclusive to anyone. I can see where this lovers option would also cause drama among writers and potentially cause some trouble for moderators. There are plenty of people out there who might become too upset at seeing a friends character become a lover to a totally different character than theirs.
All in all it would be about enforcing good perspective, but that doesn't mean there are people who always keep that good perspective.
I see the good for this option too. I say go for it, but I cannot say if it would be entirely useful for me. I would implore it being like the friends option and let people have multiples of the lovers option and that if the other user doesn't want their character listed as a lover then they could decline or choose friend or family instead.

^^^^ I agree with Nile o this. Make it so you can list multiple lovers, like the multiple friends. That would be good.
I have several characters that does would be really useful for! So I agree, there needs to be a romantic partner option in connections. Some of my characters are characters that have multiple romance rps but I have a handful that I have to just link their partners page in their bio and honestly that's just not as serious as having a romantic partner option.
I agree with the above that it could be multiple, so that people what rp multiple romance rps with their characters can link them to multiple romantic partners.
I realize romantic partners could just be marked under family but unless they are married, that just doesn't fit for me anyway.
I think this is a great idea.

I like this idea too! Sometimes, maybe one of my characters isn't the type to settle down. He/she would want just a lover for an rp or multiple rps.
