There are only around 400 topics in the sci-fi section of the RP forums while the other two are in the thousands! That is a massive difference. Even when it comes to choosing a time period, most people seem to prefer historical or modern to futuristic. Why do you suppose sci-fi is so heavily out numbered?
I didn't use to enjoy sci-fi so much, but lately, it has become one of my favorite genres. I love to experiment with science, technology, space, and I especially love creating aliens. It's a shame there aren't more people interested in it.

I'd chalk it up to trends; for a while, Fantasy was all the rage, such as when Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies were coming out. I think there's also a commonality to a lot of fantasy aspects; elves tend to be fairly consistent from one setting to another, same with orcs, etc. It's easier to blend and mishmash them. A lot of people first experience RP through Dungeons and Dragons and fantasy remains extremely popular.
Sci-Fi, however, is an extremely varied setting. If you're not using a pre-established universe then it seems daunting to a lot of people to have to make up that much information. With series like Stranger Things, Altered Carbon, Black Mirror, Star Trek Discovery, and The Expanse, I think sci-fi is beginning to reemerge in pop culture but it's just going to take some time.
I do love sci-fi however, so if you end up looking for anything along those lines, I might have a character that fits.

I enjoy sci fi but I do feel more intimidated by it than fantasy. Mostly because I don't feel like I'd be able to explain technological stuff in my posts very well. If I was familiar with a setting and the lore and all that, I'd probably feel better about it.
