Hello all. I have recently discovered a system for creating a universe for us to rp in called "Microscope". The rules and guidelines are as follows:

Decide on a theme: Be it fantasy, sci fi or steampunk as long as the group agrees, anything goes.

Make a beginning and end: Everything ends, that statement holds true here too. The end can be as definitive as the end of the universe or simply the rp's beginning.

Decide upon do's and don't's: These can either be to add flavour to the world or simply to not discomfort any players.

Flesh the timeline out: Once all of the technicalities are sorted out, we actually start making the world. Players are allowed to create either periods (e.g the medieval ages), events (e.g the sacking of Rome) and scenes (rp-able scenes within an event.)

Focuses: Every time the turns loop, a player chooses a focus for the next loop's events, periods and scenes which can either be very specific such as a person or something abstract like war.

Endgame: The game ends when we have all agreed that we have enough to go on to build an rp around.

Thank you for enduring the ramble; the rules are a vital part of this system's success. Also, just to clarify, no one has any power over anyone else in this system - not even me. If someone creates a period, event or scene that doesn't sit well with you, simply do not build upon it rather than outright rejecting it; the point of this system is to have each person have a voice into this world's story.

This sounds fantastic and really interesting!
I'll be watching this topic and maybe add to the fun later after it's decided what main theme it would be - just because I tend to be a little picky and I personally am most definitely out when it's either Medieval High Fantasy or Spaceship Alien Scifi; but for everything else I'd be intrigued to participate!

Well there are do's and don't's as I mentioned in the rules that you could use to lessen your dislike of a genre like getting rid of magic or aliens.

I just would like to wait a little to see what others would prefer so my personal preferences won't spoil the fun for several other people only because I was "faster" with writing.
Will this be open for everyone to participate in the whole time working on it or will you close it to specific players after you gathered some people around you? I see that you want everyone to have a say in this and this is a noble goal but I guess it's it gets harder to accomplish with every person that adds to the fun - while it's still the more the merrier I guess, so I take my hat off to your intentions for running this topic!
What I also didn't gather yet it where the creative journey starts and when. Meaning if you would wait for a certain amount of people and then moderate it; or if any person starts with any part of the worldbuilding and everyone goes on with it? So yes, maybe it would be smarter for me to wait a little until anyone else starts and then decide what I'd like to add

What I'm planning to do is wait for about 3 or 4 more people to join so that the group can be both manageable and so that there's less of a chance at completely different play styles and preferences clashing. Afterwards I'll close the topic and move the discussion to PMs so that the system can be worked on without interruption. Anyone who wants to join after closing will have to wait until the world has been built and moved into a group.

I will happily help build a world in this way, it'd be interesting to see how a whole group of people could build a world while working together rather than just 1 person making it by themselves. You can definitely count me in for this.

Greetings, I am very interested in joining you in this endeavor. You clearly have a well made and organized method of handling this world construction. My favorite aspect of writing is world building and I would appreciate it if I could also contribute to this undertaking.
