There's so much to do here I really don't know where to start. I made a character and that's about it. I don't know how groups work and I feel hesitant to PM people since many ask for very specific themes that don't really interest me (I want Kombat!).
I guess what I'm asking is what's a good reliable group to join since I find that GMing is a little too taxing and I rather join on something that's already built on-- but not too much since I don't want to back tack and read volumes upon volumes of RP history.

Have you tried using the RP Finder tool yet? There's a slider that you can tweak to narrow down results to more combat-focused RP prompts. Try putting it at halfway to test! You can also find groups this way, by scrolling to the bottom.

Reckon I'll give that a shot. Might even have an idea, hmm... :|a
Best of luck! I'm sure you'll find something sooner or later, the site can feel a bit slow sometimes because of varied time zones and RP activity happening in private instead. It may be worth putting up some of your own RP ideas anyway just to see who comes along. Plenty people will be happy to plan alongside you to figure out what happens next, and you could even use dice rolls to take off some of the pressure of GMing - a simple 1d6 to decide if you hit (1-2), graze (3-4), or miss (5-6) for instance.
