Dark, smoky clouds covered the horizon, fumes of burning flames rose and wavered under the wind's influence. An unbearable stench of rotten, burning flesh had run over the city of Yharnam.
The city had been overrun by a disease, causing it to be quarantined by other nearby towns and cities, the people were tainted, violent, ravenous, they believed any normal human to be a beast, and hunted them with all their might.
Myths rose of other creatures that haunted Yharnam, beasts of lore that were told of in children's stories.
Every now and then, a horrid, ear-puncturing screech could be heard, inhumane and feral, it sent chills down the spines of all those who even cross the city. The disease decayed upon the brain, leaving the vessels mindless, spouting nonsense and attacking all those who are uninfected. The disease, however, did not spread by blood, unless in gargantuan mass quantities for the blood of the meagerly infected was diluted of the virus, that was the verdict of scientists from outside the deceased town, yet rumours travelled about that it was something far worse. Brave, or rather foolish, men had ventured into Yharnam, only to never return, lost in the city's depths. However, the disease did escape the city.
People outside the land had sightings of beasts, four-legged creatures that ran rampant, killing livestock and leaving the mutilated bodies, screeching in the middle of the night.
The rumours, of course, had spread that the cure lies only within the city itself.
Multiple beast hunting guilds grew, all in reaction to the growing threats, some had even ventured into the town themselves, never to return, their history erased by the infested city. Fear grew, the infected increased, health deteriorated until they were nothing but mounds of rotting flesh.
Those unlucky have been doomed to travel to Yharnam in search of the cure or suffer a slow painful death.
Ashes was such a person. The 5'8 female of comfortable upbringing sat in a carriage, two horses lead the wooden mobile and their driver directed to Yharnam. Ashes had left her home armed with a standard guillotine, whose sheath extended into that of a massive sharpened greataxe that required immense strength to handle. A strength she possessed, although each day she felt it slightly harder to swing the blade. These weapons had been designed to face the threat, although they proved mighty, only a few had the strength and finesse to wield them. Ashes was dressed in multiple paddings of rough hide and leather, as well as a black trench coat to cover her frame and a hood to protect from the rain.
At the dawn of the night, he had arrived outside the city's gates. They had been locked from outside, each person to enter had to have someone lock the gates behind them. It was necessary, or the infestation would spread even faster.
The female stepped out of her coach, a mild cough leaving her as she paced to the gate, early symptoms of the disease. Her saddle had been filled with medication and treatment, as well as having holstered a shotgun and 6 shells along with it.
Ashes, however, was not to travel alone. Alongside her was her romantic interest, despite her insisting on them not accompanying her, they would not have it any other way. That, their loyalty, she found an invaluable quality within them.
