tl;dr: you are a superhero, supervillain, or neutral but capable of joining the fight. One day, the city is shrouded in darkness, cut off from the outside world. How did this happen? Who's behind it? How do you escape?
Non-tl;dr: The battle between superheroes and supervillains is a well-known one and certainly one that has nothing stopping it any time soon. You are normally a part of this battle in the city of Kingsport, for better or for worse, and it's just fortunate that the city is also used to the fighting, with resources set aside to help repair damage to civilian structures, contain supervillains, and aid superheroes within reason. However, what you are not used to is waking up one morning to the radio announcing that the sun hasn't risen - and as the report continues, the mystery just deepens. No one can get out of the city, those from outside the city can't get into Kingsport anymore. While you can hope that this is all and that it'll go away on its own - really, has that ever happened? This is probably just the beginning.
You can start by trying to help the panicking civilians, taking advantage of the chaos, or trying to find clues. How things develop from there will come down to you.
I'm looking for heroes and villains who can reasonably mix together - no mass murderers/lone wolves would be appreciated. I intend to be playing civilian NPCs largely, but if you want to play one or two as well, no objections! If there's any material you'd really not appreciate seeing in the rp (e.g. gore, questionable reality), let me know and I'll see what I can do to limit or excise it entirely.

Magic may be accepted as truth but is not common. It might be harnessed only by specific beings. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones.
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.
