Hi there. I'm currently creating a magical school RP group that I've been working on (and procrastinating) for a while now. I need some advice regarding a system I had in the RP.
The system is about classes characters can take. My original plan was to have all the classes listed and have people choose anything they wanted. I now realize this could render the RP very hard to play or even unplayable because there would probably only be 1-2 characters in a class at any given moment. In order to fill the gaps, I'd have to control A LOT of NPCs, and that would inevitably require way more moderation and work than I can handle.
My second idea is that I make 4 premade schedules and ask people to choose between them. This is MUCH more manageable, but I'll have to cut some classes, which might disappoint people. I also have multiple applications for the group, and I'm nervous to reject them and ask the applicants to submit another application if I fix the system.
I'd like to hear people's thoughts on these two ideas. Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: I've decided to update the system, but thoughts on it are still appreciated!

I may be out of line, but here's my two-cents:
Trust your gut, and trust your fellow rpers to know how to handle a few NPCs on their own. Share the burden of that load, and be willing to accept what comes from that. Don't fear god-modding, and prepare to deal with it as best you can, but know that giving that kind of freedom really can instill some great outcomes on all ends. Let the tale breathe on it's own, with each person pumping their brand of fresh air into it. It seems risky to let their be so much freedom, but... I dunno. Maybe you can work with that. Maybe they can, too. I guess I put too much faith in some things, but I don't mind.
If you still want to run with the schedule limiter, go for it. No harm in doing what you feel is best. But you can always use those classes that are dismissed in a more specific function. Maybe very special cases or NPCs that are not examples of common place scenarios. Either way, don't be nervous. Reject what you know will only create more static than feed that drive you're building on. You should be honest with yourself, and others. People will appreciate that, even if they don't always like what you have to say. And if not, well, seems like you've got a good idea to build from, so best of luck no matter what!
^__^ Adios.
