I have set up 3 different group role plays during my time on this site, and out of those: One was successful, but failed to start when it was moved due to it being incorrectly placed (It was my first, so I had no idea what I was doing on that one), the second got one person before it died in the forum, and the last one is about to die in a similar manner. is there something im missing? Am I doing something wrong when putting them up?

Edit: I apologize for my lack of detail on the manner, here is the link for the third role play.

This site, and any RP site really, is filled with players that disappear on other players all of the time. A lot of it has nothing to do with people being punks to each other and a lot to do with people wanting to avoid confrontation, so they flake out rather than write up a message to tell you they're not really feeling it anymore.

Of course, there are far more than just this factor. There are real life considerations to think on, it could be their creativity has just dried up on them, or they're burned out. It could be that your idea just didn't hold the interest they thought it would.

Your best bet would be speak to the players, and ask them. If they tell you something you don't want to hear, take it on the chin and understand that something just didn't work between you and that player. Maybe you can do something about it, maybe you can't.

At the end of the day, you're not going to please everyone, nor should you try to. Stick true to your own style and find those that can work with that style.

Maybe it's worth trying some one on one plays instead of seeking out a group. See if you can find a player that doesn't mind playing more than one character at once.

I know this doesn't really help you with what's happened already, but hopefully you'll find some use for the advice, and if not, hopefully someone else can help you :)

I didn't say I'm having problems with other people, heck the one on one roleplays I have had on here have been great.

My issue is that my two most recently posted group roleplays have been left untouched and ignored until they died in the rp list (Yes the first one was somewhat successful but like I said, due to a mistake on my part it got moved, and promptly abandoned) perhaps this is one of those things where it's simply posting roleplay after roleplay until one finally catches on?

Again, if this is something on my end then I just want answers on what. If it is more about just the way the website is structured, then i'll just go back to the drawing board and try again with a different plan.
I don't know how to help you beyond sharing my own personal opinion. I also don't use LFRP so there may be some common expectations/standards that I don't know about. Either way, here you are:

When I checked out The Hotel my first thought was that it was a little too vague. I'm not sure what kind of characters you're looking for, what time period this takes place in, or what kind of fantasy is allowed. I also want to know if our characters are meant to know about the existence of magic (if there is any).

Is it modern, historical, or futuristic? Can I play an elf? What about an angel? Even though you say that all kinds of characters are allowed, I still feel inclined to try to match the setting and theme with a character that would be suitable for it.

I think that since the hotel is the main focus, it would be nice to include a description of the hotel itself. If players know what they're looking at, it'll help them build an impression of the place and then decide how their character might react. Say for example this RP takes place in the modern era, but this hotel is ancient and built with some kind of outdated architectural style. A lot of players would assume it's abandoned. You could suggest that the hotel has some lights on or people passing in and out of it to imply that it's still being used.

Those are just my thoughts. I personally like knowing as much as possible about the RP I'm joining, so yeah.

Ah I got you. Sorry, I misunderstood.

I've read over your hotel one, and I wouldn't say you've necessarily done anything wrong. But it is really pretty vague, and I think that might be part of it. It also looks like you've got everything set out, you've not really mentioned anything about talking OOC first to set things up and go into further detail of what you want.

But on top of that... sometimes, you're just not going to get any bites you know? People see it and don't want to do it. I wouldn't say they're ignoring your posts. People aren't going to type in there "I don't want to do that." and then leave, that wouldn't be cool

You could try redoing your advertisement, but don't worry about bumping because this site has an RP finder tool that helps people find rps regardless of how long ago they were posted - I'm not sure how this part works, as I've not used it, but bumping is discouraged
(I edited the above paragraph from suggesting a bump, but have since learned it is not something encouraged)

I would encourage you to add more detail to your advertisements too. Generally speaking, if I don't have a general idea of where the play is going to go, what kind of things I might experience in there, I tend to leave it alone unless the vague concept really inspires me.

If I could offer an example of how I personally would write out an advertisement?

This was your one - so I'm going to try to work with that, as though it was my idea and what I think I might have wanted to do. I don't put writing samples in my advertisements, but if you do want to do it, do it from your character's POV, not the other characters you know? Or if you're doing the other character try not to control them too much.

(I plan for this roleplay to have adventure and mystery elements in it, although bits of humor scattered in as well)
(All types of characters welcome, although try not to have your character solve every conflict, be fair.)

You, after a long day of doing whatever, are walking down a forest path when a fog appears around you, blocking your vision less than 3 feet in front of you. You continue walking, in hopes of escaping the fog, but to no avail, you just continue walking for what feels like a eternity before the fog finally vanishes, and you realize you have walked off the trail and wandered into the deeper forest. However, it is the distance you a notice a small, well lit, two story hotel. You figure you can just sleep there for the night and go back to heading towards your destination by morning.

Hi :) Thanks for looking in.
I've got an idea that I really want to try. The main or at least starting location is going to be a hotel that is located in the middle of the woods that no one seems to know how they got to. Maybe your car broke down and you see it in the distance. Or maybe you got lost on a road trip and it's getting late, so you pull off for the night. Perhaps you had a night of heavy drinking out with your friends, and suddenly you wake up in a hotel room with no recollection on how you got there.

However it happened, if you were conscious during your journey, you walked, or drove through a patch of thick fog, even if you tried to go back on yourself after accidentally getting caught up in it, it seems you hadn't retraced your steps like you thought. You're lost and it's late, and the hotel is the only sanctuary on offer.

I'm looking for any player, male or female who's interested in bringing in a character to this mysterious hotel. While I'm looking for a pretty serious story, I'd like to include some comedy elements, and there's going to be a mystery involved as well.

I'll be narrating, so will control a number of NPCs, some will be faceless, others will basically be full blown characters. There will be conflict and the potential for romance, but ultimately, I want to focus on mystery and adventure and would love to hear from anyone that thinks they would enjoy putting their characters through this.

I want to put this in a modern setting, and while there are going to be some unexplainable elements, all player characters will need to be normal human.

Please PM me if you're interested, so we can discuss the idea in further detail.

Thanks!

So I'm not sure if this is anything at all what you're going for, but if I had an idea that might be similar to your own, this would be how I would put up the advertisement and if you wanted to add a sample of your play style below, you could, so people know what they're getting from you.

I hope this gives you some help. Again I'm not saying what you have is wrong, and I know I've put up advertisements and gotten very minimal interest, but adding a bit more information to your adverts should help garner you some interest :)

Good luck!!
