And what if we sorted the titles by the number of letters in the title? Like one group for the books with odd-numbered titles and another group for the even-numbered titles.

That's not a bad idea! I don't know if the author names or subtitles come into play at all, though.

I'll count the subtitles.

Wait, I looked at the way I was sorting the books and saw that the first title was odd-numbered, the next one was even-numbered, the next one was odd-numbered, and guess what the next one was? Even-numbered counting the apostrophe.

But The Great Bug War ruins it. Never mind on my theory.

So we only have two clues to go off of

@SolarLoki - The first clue is totally valid. The only bit that isn't is from the bottle that said "Tell the alpha riddlers before I die..."

Yeah, that's the part that's flavour bits. Everything else is helpful, somehow.

We also got three clues from bottles.
"Odd, even, odd, even"
"These columns have spines"
"The way the answer is merged is quite regular"

So I think it's pretty safe to assume that the columns are referring to the books on the bookshelf, re: spines and close to a source of knowledge.
