Hi all,
I'd like to ask whether anyone here is, was or knows someone who has been a part of their local police force. I'm trying to design a female character who has been a cop to complement her husband's military career and the cops in my country aren't very transparent with their training aside from basic. So if anyone could PM me some information about SWAT team training, Coast Guard training or just plain old Leadership courses, mucho gracias amigo!
Edit:
To clarify: I'm looking for operational training. What do cops have to go through to familiarise thenselves with handling suspects, crime scene investigation, commanding a unit. That kind of thing. Prison Service and Youth programmes aren't quite what I'm asking about here. I'm asking about the Tactical Unit, SWAT Team and Coast Guard.

Hey there! We have this community research project in one of our local jails for almost 3 years. We conduct workshops to women inmates as a form of rehabilitation for them, so we are basically working with the police there as well. Does that count?

Uhhhhh... Not really. I'm looking for people who can talk to me about the Tactical Unit, Coast Guard, CSI and Basic training. Prison Service and rehab isn't really what I'm looking out for. But thanks for replying!
I was gonna actually ask them questions about their job since we're very close, but okay. No problem.
Hey there!
I was part of the Law Enforcement Explorers program in my town several years back that trained teens and young adults for becoming part of a police force! A lot of it was memorisation when it came to license plate letters for code words, 10 Codes for communications to others on the force, gun handling and training, hostile situation scenarios (gauging a situation, how to enter a room, light stealth techniques, when to shoot your gun, etc.), and fitness training.
I can't really tell you much about anything else, but I can definitely tell you about a lot of what I went through in order to prepare to become part of the police force before I was diagnosed with cancer.

Thank you, but I'm more concerned with the training courses for actual cops. Basic Police Officer Course, Command and Staff, Combat Skills, that kind of thing. Especually for the Tactical Unit or SWAT team and the Coast Guard.
Thanks for replying though!
Err... what I went through was for training to become a cop on the police force, though?
But I guess you're looking for something super specific.

Oh, it wasn't an extra-curricular activity? Cos what you did sounds a bit like the National Police Cadet Corps from my nation which is for secondary school students to have a co-curricular activity outside of studies. For most it's just a CCA and they don't sign on with the police force.
If yours was for operational training, then that might fit. By operational training I mean it's similar to basic. If it was then PM me, thanks.
