Hello all,
I have never tried role-playing online before (or the board game kind, or any kind), and after looking around I thought this forum might be a good place to start. I get the idea, but I may not be totally familiar with the protocol and acronyms and any tips are welcome.
Oh, and I'm 38, and I'm a female living in Texas. I work in the education field. I love to read and eat Italian food and Mexican food. I have Chihuahuas. I also love Star Trek. I would love to be a writer someday but I don't know if I have the discipline. I write some freelance ads here and there.
Blah, blah...on to the fun stuff!
I'd like to try something short and simple at first, to get the hang of it, if anyone has any suggestions or wants to show me the ropes.
Themes I am interested in trying:
1. Hurt/Comfort Scenarios (preferably emotional not physical but will do either)
2. Science Fiction
3. Original characters are ok with me. I don't watch many of the shows that many roleplayers get their settings from, unfortunately. I don't know anime. The new shows I watch are things like Drunk History and Dogs 101, so using original characters might be better (or using celebrities, or even historical figures)
4. F/F Friendship Scenarios
(hurt/comfort, angst together, empathy, sacrifice, defending one another, fighting a common foe)
(examples that come to mind are: Xena and Gabrielle, Beverly Crusher and Deanna Troi of ST:TNG, Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor of Supergirl, Kara and her sister Alex)
5. F/F Romance (ex. Alex Danvers and Maggie Sawyer on Supergirl AKA "Sanvers", Xena and Gabrielle fan fiction and infinite other fan fiction from every universe)
6. Possibly some M/F Romance and Friendship scenarios for certain, specific characters but not as interested in that
7. Any classic Star Trek or Star Trek: TNG roleplay (because I know those universes well) or anything based on shows I know well like Friends. Perhaps Vampire Diaries, but I'm mainly familiar with older shows because I don't have time to watch TV anymore.
8. Medical Scenarios (goes back to hurt/comfort again and angst among other things)
9. Themes related to emotional vulnerability (ex. adopted kids or adults who have trust issues daring to trust someone enough to let down their emotional barriers to let them in, tough-as-nails people who never cry until they do, anger issues that melt into fear and vulnerability under a certain person's touch, a traumatized, touch-averse person finally letting someone touch them, and heal them...stuff like that).
That's a lot. Whew. Let me know if you want to help me learn role-playing! Thanks for reading.

Hey! I love to meet people who are new to roleplaying! I myself have been roleplaying online for about a year, and obviously, I really enjoy it! I hope you do too! There are multiple spots under the "Help" tab that can help you start out your journey!
Heya! Welcome to RPR . Hope you enjoy your time here because this site is truly wonderful. You'll fit in just right with roleplaying, everyone here is really nice and welcoming.
Welcome! Glad you've joined us.
When getting started with RP, I really recommend this primer on basic RP concepts as a starting place. Even if you have some RP experience, it can be a nice way to see what the general norm is here.
When it comes to starting RPs, most people start in the Looking For RP forum to find some other players. There's also a search tool that will help you find what you're looking for within that forum - click "Find RP" in the top menu, then "join game" then scroll to the bottom to adjust your preferences for game types. If you want more info on using that search tool, here's a handy help article.
If you end up joining someone else's RP, they'll let you know the details about how to join in.
If you're starting up your own RP, you have a few choices about how to proceed once you've found a RP partner or two.
By the by, you can use the "launch chat" button at the top and bottom of any forum topic, whether it's in a private group forum or our public RP forums, to turn your topic into a real time chat! There's also a link in the sidebar of private messages that will let you do the same.
I'm sure you're finding your way around okay so far, but just in case, if you have a question, there's a few ways to get help. You can always try typing your question into the search box, or you can go to the Help section to see a list of popular articles. If you still need more help, our community is wonderfully friendly. Please don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it!

- You can just create a RP topic on one of our 3 public RP forums: General Roleplay, Sci-Fi Roleplay and Fantasy RP. Keep in mind that because these areas are public, you'll have to make sure the RP stays in the PG-13ish range.
- You can choose to RP via private messages, and just create a new conversation thread with all your RP partners as recipients. Since this is private, the only rules that tend to apply are not to do OOC illegal things and be nice to your RP partners OOC.
- If you're going to have a whole lot of people in your RP, or the RP setting is going to be very strictly defined and you want to have a place to store world building information alongside it, you might consider starting your own group. This gives you access to profile building tools for the group, but also to creating your very own forums!
- In some cases, you and your RP partner might even decide to use some other messenger or game to RP on.
