Magic is fairly common. Players and NPCs important to the tale may have it. Mistborn.
Modern
Unrest may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat may be summarized.
Rachnera, an Arachne monster at the height of 6'6", would be seen walking outside on the sidewalk. She uses her slender hand to mask her six red eyes from the beaming sun. Her eight appendages silently tapping on the ground beneath her as she walks. The city was big, but also quite small. Due to her threatening appearance, humans around her quickly moved aside for her to pass along. Monster folk were also afraid of her and did the same thing. It wasn't like she didn't enjoy the space, but it would be appreciative to have a friend or two. Today, she was wearing a white crop top that showed a great deal of underboob and wore a black skirt that hid anything private. She went to the local smoothie shop and sat down at a table with her Banana Strawberry Smoothie. She looked outside while she sipped her drink, all while daydreaming and hiding in her own little world.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you can't get into character on this forum. I'd suggest moving to the fantasy forums, or -shameless plug- joining a group that my friend set up.
