Hello! I’ve had this idea for a Kaleesh “grey Jedi” for a long long time but I’ve never had the facts or knowledge to fully develop him.
Here’s what I have:
I want him to be a Kaleesh warrior who wields a green cross guard lightsaber with a cracked Kyber crystal. He found it in an ancient Jedi temple form the Greate Scourge.
I’d like him to be trained by Yoda (which I know a ton of people will hate me for) sectretly. He’d make it to the Jedi counsel and become a Jedi master but after Yoda sees the darkness inside of him, he leaves and becomes a “grey Jedi”.
He’s EXTREMELY skilled in the force and has mastered most of the forms but relies on his emotions and short temper to overpower his opponents. He’s even a match for Maul and Dooku.
He has ties with Grievous however is only saddened by his decision.
After leaving the Jedi I have two ideas for him
1. He serves himself by becoming a bounty hunter, wielding both his lightsaber and a DT-29 heavy blaster pistol. He’ll serve for justice but fight using emotion and anger.
2. He becomes a full time Sith hunter, plucking away at weaker Siths and making his way up the ladder.
Either way, after the events of Order 66, he’ll become enraged, killing clones. However once his rage subsided he will go into hiding, never returning to the ways of the force and never again touching his lightsaber. From then on, he’ll become more of a bounty hunter wielding not one but two DT-29 heavy blaster pistols.
Once he ages though, he’ll lead a life of peace and prosperity until his death.

Here are some questions to get your gears turning!
How old is he?
Is he human?
Why did Yoda train him in secret? Did he have any other mentors/masters?
What are his weaknesses?
Why does he have so much darkness?
What lead him to leaving the order (besides his darkness)?
How did he become part of the council?
Why did he become part of the council (as in why was he 'promoted' and in what ways did he qualify)?
When you say he's skilled in the force, what does that mean? Does he specialize with any particular force abilities?
What is stopping him from completely turning to the dark side? (Remember, 'good intentions' do not protect you from the dark side. Anakin believed he was doing the right thing.)
Annnddd finally... What is his personality like? Don't forget to flesh him out as a person. Backstory and abilities don't contribute nearly as much to a character as his personality!

Hey thank you so so so much!
Age wise, I don’t really know
No, he is Kaleesh
The same race as General Grievous (obviously prior to his “advancements”)
I do not know which one would sound more realistic? If neither, he can definitely have a different master.
Definitely his rage and anger. It can get the best of him during battle.
Fighting with emotion mostly. He believed it gave him a purpose to fight.
I’ve had an idea on how he got his lightsaber. I’ve heard that many space pirates found and sought out Force sensitive children to open up Abandoned Jedi Temples. I like the idea that they abducted my character in his teens and brought him to a temple, there he finds his cross guard.
So perhaps the separation of him from his family could fuel his anger?
And most likely his tribal background?
He was extremely wise and good hearted. A great strategist due to his tribal background. He was also a philosopher
He mainly would focus on levitation, animal friendship, and Plant Surge but would be skilled with the basics as well. Often using these skills creativity.
Such as:
Because of the pirates, learning to unlock doors using the force
Reading minds to find out codes
Enhancing hearing to eavesdrop on conversations
Using levitation to escape being seen
Using plant surge as active camo
Perhaps it’s his want for enlightenment?or maybe even just his will? Or maybe, his sadness over Grievous (Kaleesh) and never wanting to become something like him?
He is a very stern person at times through and through. Easy to anger and slow to recover. Emotional, depressed, and manipulative.
But aside from all that, he’s very warm hearted most of the time. Very selfless and open minded. Yes, he does like to hide his emotions with a smile, but in reality, he is hurting.
I want to make him as believable as possible but lack the knowledge to do so

Oops, don't know how I missed the bit about him being a Kaleesh!
Some ideas for his age to consider: Most human Jedi are about 20 when they become a knight, and 30 when they take on a padawan. Around 30 is also when it's common for them to become a Jedi Master. Some Jedi, such as Obi Wan, are an exception to this because they lost their master. I'm actually not sure what age is appropriate for joining the council. I also can't seem to find anything on the lifespan of a Kaleesh...
Considering your character was a Jedi before order 66, that means most Jedi were adopted into the order while they were still very, very young. That makes it all the more interesting that he was a teen when he began his training! It certainly helps justify his anger, considering he had a chance to actually grow up and develop his own thoughts and attachments before having the "Jedi way" nailed into his brain.
Yoda was stubborn about teaching Luke because of how old he was, so I wouldn't be surprised if most masters were reluctant to teach your character for the same reason. Perhaps this is why Yoda decided to train him in secret. Your character could have had a master of his own, but Yoda sensed the anger early on and wanted to help guide your character in the right direction.
I don't know much about the pirates you mentioned, so I can't say for certain whether or not he would have ever met Yoda while training under them.

That’s the main problem I’m having as well I don’t know about Kaleesh lifespans
That’s a very good point! He’d already have his own views on the world and would see things differently than a Jedi trained at a young age would. He’ll definitely have some confusion and anger in and around that topic. I like how Rebel Without A Cause comes to mind
That’s a very good point! It would be much harder to have someone who’s already been using the force and his saber learn the Jedi way.
They used force sensitive children to unlock Jedi temples.
In my character’s case, they pretty much used him as a weapon or as someone to strike fear into their victims (those who they are pirating).
They could teach him how to use his abilities for more criminalistic reasons such as eavesdropping, unlocking doors, reading minds, and threatening people. That would prove extremely hard for a Jedi to change a child who’s grown up using the force in that way, and have him use it for good. Creating a stubborn attitude most likely.
I don’t think the pirates should be too kind to the boy, treating him as property or a tool mostly? Otherwise leaving him in a cell?
-Perhaps Yoda could save my character from the pirates? Perhaps sensing that he is force sensitive, forming a Jedi raid on the pirate’s ship? And saving him?
-Or perhaps there was a battle between the pirates and rivals and he was forced into an escape pod to be recovered later but never was? His pirating friends could have been killed off?
- maybe even he sees a Jedi while the pirates are landed on a planet and he follows the Jedi? The Jedi notices he is force sensitive and gains my character’s trust? Then taking him from the pirates to Yoda?
