Alright so, I suck at introductions, even though I've probably written over a hundred of them in my life as a RP'er lol. Regardless of that though, bear with me as I try to make this both as painless as me as it is for you.
Hey there! My name's Jayy, I'm 25 and I live in the CST/CDT time zone of the world. Writing has been a hobby of mine since I was roughly 12. I've enjoyed coming up with weird tales, different worlds, and just escaping the throws of life as a way to stress relief. One thing I would like to point out, is that this isn't a job for me. I know there are some that take RP'ing seriously, and that's great! More power to those of you that do, but for me this will always come second in my life so before you continue reading, I ask that you respect that pretty please.
Moving on! So I got roughly 13+ years of experience under my belt if we're counting the small breaks I've taken here and there. My first venture into this world was with Neopets of all things and the old forums they used to have (are they still even around???). From there, I was talked into joining a Harry Potter site that doubled as both an immersive experience and a roleplaying one. It was nice, but a bit overwhelming, though I found a place called "Magical Hogwarts" on invisionfree (if you read this and RP'd there, REACH OUT! I'll probably remember you) and the rest was history. I primarily focused on forum RP for many years, bouncing between invisionfree and proboards as well as all sorts of genres/fandoms. I took to Livejournal one year, spent a while on there, but didn't care too much for the layout and as such wound up basically making 1x1 requests on sites like Reddit.
As far as writing goes, I have some pointers posted in my profile, but the main things I'm gravitating towards right now are:
Modern Fantasy has been my go to since Livejournal and my first foray into sticking with original characters. I have several that I love to use, ranging from a loud-mouth zombie that's trying to keep up with the supernatural world, to a mage that owns a bar in lower Manhattan and gets roped into supernatural cases. I'm all about world building and figuring out the details when it comes to RPs like this, so do expect lots of gushing over characters as well as ramblings about whats going on in the writing.
For fandoms, I don't use canon characters often. OCs are my preference, though I've been SUPER craving playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man for some time now. Star Wars-wise, anything set between RotS and ANH or perhaps after RotJ using the old Legends canon is always going to be right up my alley.
I prefer my partners to be 18+, not only because of mature themes that will arise, but at my age I feel weird interacting with anyone younger. I know, I know, there's probably a lot of budding and very mature for their age writers on here, but that's just a preference of mine. When it comes to NSFW topics, I enjoy it. Smut is great, I don't mind having one off ventures with it, but it isn't my sole focus. A good friend of mine put it this way "It's not so much a game of keeping smut out of writing for me as it is keeping writing outta my smut!" That means, I'm not looking for plots based around it. Dark themes are also A+, but as long as they are well plotted out. Don't come to me looking for a torture scene just for the sake of it and nothing else.
Style wise: I write in 3rd person, past tense with varying degrees of quantity. I average on most 2-5 paragraphs in a reply though have been known to go into Novella-type posts when it comes to setting a scene or backstory bits. I'm not set on having a partner that can follow that routine. In fact, I enjoy rapid fire just as much as the longer stuff. Main thing is quality is better than quantity. As long as you give me something to work with, then we're golden. MxF is my primary go to in terms of ships/pairings. I ONLY write male characters. Sorry, when it comes to leads I can't pull off a female for some reason, just like I can't write MxM relationships beyond the basic kind of backstory ordeal.
My activity varies to be honest. I work a day job that allows me to be on a computer for most of the day, and as such I normally write during that time. Still, there are some days where it is busier than others and so I may not be available at all. For more set times, I tend to write between 6am-3pm CST during the week and from 8pm-1am CST on the weekends (Fridays included).
I do have a life though, so please respect that and don't hound me for replies. If for some reason I'm not digging something, I WILL LET YOU KNOW. Trust me, I've been ghosted way to many times to count and sincerely try my best not to do the same to others. The only time I will leave without warranted reason is if A ) I don't feel comfortable or B ) I've tried to plot something out with you and you've left me hanging for a week or more. At that point I'll cut my losses, assume you aren't interested, and move on. No hard-feelings what-so-ever.
Fair warning to those that take me on as a partner: I will talk your ear off. Seriously, my job is boring and I'm the only one in the office on most days. I love making friends with who I write with, as I feel that in doing so thing seem to flow better. I have an anxiety disorder, so the more comfort level I have with you in that regard, the easier it is for keeping things going.

We are okay with you taking your RPs to other platforms after finding them here.
When it comes to starting RPs, most people start in the Looking For RP forum to find some other players. There's also a search tool that will help you find what you're looking for within that forum - click "Find RP" in the top menu, then "join game" then scroll to the bottom to adjust your preferences for game types. If you want more info on using that search tool, here's a handy help article.
If you end up joining someone else's RP, they'll let you know the details about how to join in.
If you're starting up your own RP, you have a few choices about how to proceed once you've found a RP partner or two.
- You can just create a RP topic on one of our 3 public RP forums: General Roleplay, Sci-Fi Roleplay and Fantasy RP. Keep in mind that because these areas are public, you'll have to make sure the RP stays in the PG-13ish range.
- You can choose to RP via private messages, and just create a new conversation thread with all your RP partners as recipients. Since this is private, the only rules that tend to apply are not to do OOC illegal things and be nice to your RP partners OOC.
- If you're going to have a whole lot of people in your RP, or the RP setting is going to be very strictly defined and you want to have a place to store world building information alongside it, you might consider starting your own group. This gives you access to profile building tools for the group, but also to creating your very own forums!
- In some cases, you and your RP partner might even decide to use some other messenger or game to RP on.
By the by, you can use the "launch chat" button at the top and bottom of any forum topic, whether it's in a private group forum or our public RP forums, to turn your topic into a real time chat! There's also a link in the sidebar of private messages that will let you do the same.

Thanks for clearing a lot of this up for me! I know some places are iffy on outside means, and while it's something I'm used to using, I just didn't want to step on any toes.
I figured out most of the how to's for starting/finding a rp, but I didn't know you could do the chat bit! That's pretty awesome.

I don't know if my characters would interest you but I am always open for a roleplay if one is possible. A lot of what you have expressed here I completely agree with and feel the same way / prefer the same thing.
I totally understand you on the rambling thing because I do that a LOT... You're typing and then all of a sudden you're like... Woah... How the heck did I just write all that!?
BTW I love original characters, I don't think I have ever really roleplayed a canon before, I actually don't like to because I feel like it is SO much pressure on you to portray them correctly whereas with original characters, that pressure isn't exactly there. I prefer detailed writing as well I mean I can't say I am the best writer, I offer my best and I am always trying to improve.
I know my characters are a little "far-fetched" in the fantasy setting but I love roleplaying as creatures, and for some reason, MOST people who I have come into contact with in the past never wanted to roleplay with me if I didn't have a human character... So, now I go the extra mile and make all of my characters shapeshifters that I can still have my love for writing as a creature and appeal to those who want to roleplay with a human form lol.

And if you do feel uncomfortable with something or something isn’t working out, I’d be happy to talk and try to fix whatever the problem is. And your writing is very nice, I’m like the intro you did!
I’m not sure if my characters would interest you or not, but I have one that’s a dragon who can shift into a human form, who woke up 10,000 years later. This can lead to some amusing scenes, considering she thought one time a toaster was attacking her but I can make it where she’s lived long enough in the human world where that won’t happen.

I just gotta say that's kinda lame that no one wanted to RP with just a creature. I can probably say Colin would be your best bet for either strictly a creature or some sort of shapeshifter. I always was kinda awe struck by those on LJ who RP'd as like wolf packs and the like because, while it's not my cup of tea writing wise personally, it's still unique and at the end of the day that's what writing is supposed to be!
Yeah no I'm not the type of RP'er that's gonna shut down interaction just cause there is no smut going on like c'mon now lol. But yeah! Drop me a line sometime and maybe we can work something out! I'm always willing to make new characters so keep that in mind!

That's awesome you're working on a book! My main guy, Colin, is a character I've been using in a few works of mine for awhile now. Sadly, none of them have been finished, but I hope to complete them one day!
All characters interest me! The problem is that sometimes I just don't have a counterpart to match them at that moment, but like I said above I'm always willing to make new characters xD. I'll stop by your page here in a bit and read through them or just reach out to chat or something!
