There was no era as glorious as the steampunk era; fascinating inventions, ships powered by hot air balloons, victorian culture...it was absolutely enthralling with the shiny metal, solid pipes, turning gears, and the familiar hiss of steam.
At least...that's how the upperclass felt.
In reality, not all had such luck of the draw. The world was cruel, and the city of Arsenik was no exception. Those who weren't "made in the money" had pitiful, cramped one-room living spaces, or were forced to live on the streets. Even the middleclass suffered, with small homes and barely any ability to keep a job.
The upperclass, however, had mansions. Beautiful, steaming mansions that showed off their wealth and wits. After all, inventors and businessmen were the true millionaires of the steampunk age.
Except for one, that is.
Emci deHeart. An absolute prodigy in the field of inventing, she was considered middleclass at most. But that's because she was an orphan, taken in by a famous inventress. When that inventress passed, the world turned their noses up at Emci, deeming that she wasn't worthy to be among them.
But Emci had a fire in her heart. She would not stand for the mistreatment of others, those who were just down on their luck. While the rich folk wined and dined, children went to bed starving.
Emci knew that it was time to rise up, once and for all.

On very, very, rare occasions there may be unexplained, POSSIBLY supernatural events. Minor "environmental" magic. Perhaps implies the existence of a deity or supernatural entity. Or perhaps it's just tricks?
