This is my general idea the specifics can be worked out as it progresses and feel free to suggest changes, now on with the idea. You find an add in the local paper about a reclusive man living in a massive estate high in the mountains looking for a gardener/animal caretaker or housekeeper. Things gradually become stranger from the massive house with only one resident and yet there are screams each night with no identifiable source, stables with horses almost eight feet tall, a garden full of plants that appear to be otherworldly each room in the house looks like it either came from the past, some fantasy realm or both , and then there is the owner of the house who never shows his face seems to vanish into thin air and might have a tail???
Some magic. Few can use it, but most of the players probably won't have it. Magical characters will likely believe that they are all alone.

Unrest may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat may be summarized.
