(Low Sci Fi setting, set in the revival of civilization after the collapse of a high sci fi galaxy spanning civilization. The why's and the whens are pretty hazy. All most people know, is it was called the scream, and it was not pleasant.)
Aboard a space station, real estate is limited, rather harshly. A growing community, once it has used all of its space, is left with a few options. Stop growing, find more space, or get more comfortable with each other. Once all the redundant space has been found, all the non structural walls knocked through, and the maintenance crawl-ways have been colonized, people get very comfortable with each other.
Successful space stations have the luxury of building outwards, usually with all the grace of bolting ship hulls and other stations together. Venita is an incredibly successful space station. In a perfect storm of conditions, it found itself set right between two nascent empires, with trade embargoes against eachother... but not against it. What was once just a stop along for far traders became the middle ground, where trade once removed could occur. Luxuries, high quality postech equipment, and the advanced material of the Lican Concordate, exchanged for the raw quantity of cheap, consumer grade products and military hardware for private purchase that the Democratic Peoples Union of Planets disgorged with seeming ease.
As a result of this success. Venita is almost unrecognizable as the Bannerjee class five station it started life as, before the scream. The only part of it currently visible from the outside is its docking gates, peeking out from the mass of ships and metal packed around the once little station. To put things in proportion, a Bannerjee class five has a maximum recommended crew compliment of fifty. It can handle eighty. At the date of the first expansion, Venita was housing one hundred and sixty three. At present, it is home to fifty four thousand permanent residents, and plays host to as many as twenty thousand visitors at any one time. As a result, if you need a job, this is ground zero. The first place you go. Above or below board, Venita, is home sweet home for the spacer with a love of, or need for short term contracts.
Now that the flavor is all out there. down to brass tacks. This little ditty is based on the Stars without number system, for the setting, and the odd roll.

As for characters who it'd be nice to hop in on this, well, anyone who could feasibly be hanging around a space station looking for a job. We can have a feral worlder who barely speaks a word of the language, to three short aliens in a trenchcoat. Go wild on me. Or play San Holo. thats cool too.

Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
Far future, perhaps interstellar travel (generation ships)
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
Details: Occasional dice use, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

This sounds interesting... is this meant more as just a life in space thing, with the random interactions of people on the station, or is there a grander plan in mind for the story?
There is indeed a story in mind, the short term of it being a group of people aboard a ship, taking jobs, making the money needed to keep a ship running. Firefly style.
If you're not particularly experienced, thats not a problem, we all started somewhere after all! All manner of characters can fit together in this rag tag world, humans, or at least people who appear as human, would be preferable, as in this setting aliens are rare, and therefor valuable, and attract a lot of attention.

So... are you wanting us to like make character sheets for this?
No, just make a character who'd fit into the setting, someone who'd be on the station looking for work.
Some questions to ask yourself would be the sort of, where are they from? Born on the station? A planet? What kind of planet? Why did they come here if they weren't born here? If they were born here what part of the station did they start at? The more affluent part, or the worse part? What job to they do? Engineer, Doctor, bodyguard, pilot, hacker, con artist? have they ever had a run in with the law?
As for things they could have, just make a little list of personal possessions, it can be pretty much anything within reason. On a station like this most people have guns, but be reasonable, yes you can have a pistol or a shotgun, probably can't have a anti vehicle laser, unless your character is some kind of ex military badass who it would make sense for. (But then that kind of thing might get you into trouble later)
