Okay so!
I'm thinking about making a profile for a canon character (or two) that I would REAAAAALLY love to RP with.

First off: I've never RP'd a canon character before, however, I have written (a bit) of this character before in fanfiction, and it was well received, so... I think I write them well enough lol

Second: My general opinion of canon characters when other people RP them (IE, not in fanfic) is usually highly skeptical; I'm always worried the person behind the screen won't be able to do the character justice, and as such, I'd end up not vibing with the RP.

THIS ALL BEING SAID:
What do y'all think of canon characters being RP'd?
Is this a big no-no?
Are you on the same bench as I am, where it's something you're skeptical about?
Do you absolutely love canon character RPs?


I searched the character up, and there's only one other profile here on RPR for them, so it's not a character that's over-saturated or anything... Is it worth a shot to try out this character?

I don't know about full on "canon characters" (or in my case AECs: already existing characters) but maybe more like "parody characters", like creating a character that already exists but tweek them a bit like their look and name

I'm neutral on people who do canon characters, maybe even on the positive side because I'd like to see how they explore a character with pre-existing history. It helps that I haven't been burnt by any bad experiences .

For me it depends on how well the canon character is rped. If they are rped well, then it can be a fun experience. On the other hand, badly played ones are very cringeworthy.

I roleplayed with someone who was using Jareth the Goblin King and it was very enjoyable. Sadly the person then disappeared much to my disappointment.

My experience with people playing Canon characters has been very positive! Canon characters are definitely allowed here, too.

I don't really feel skeptical about people playing them, although that might be because of previous experiences, but I believe a lot of people here do. If you want to talk to someone who roleplays mostly canon characters, hit up Asroc! He's a cool dude.

I'm never interested in having canon characters in a RP. I have a strong preference for OCs.

That said, I've never actually played with someone using a CC. But I wouldn't really mind trying it. It's just another character at the end of the day.

Worst case being they interpret the character entirely different than the way I do, lol, but even then I can't imagine caring enough.

Hm. Depends on the role-player. I met one who pulled off a brilliant Adam Jensen (Dues Ex, Video game) ah, so many role-plays with him. I miss that dude it's been like a year now since I last talked to him.
