The last thing you remember from last night was drunkenly stumbling into the local occult shop. Now, you are slowly waking up to the hangover to end all hangovers, and find a piece of paper on your chest. It reads, in large letters, <<The undersigned has sold their soul for magical powers and a familiar.>> Your signature is at the bottom. Slowly, the smell of bacon and eggs is wafting in from the kitchen, and an inhuman voice shouts, “Master, your breakfast is ready!”
Muse A is a powerful familiar, who seeks out the most delicious of souls to snack on. The familiar was assigned to Muse B over a drunken, yet very legal, deal in a magic shop. This familiar is the highest quality in customer service, and ready to teach Muse B the newfound powers. Muse B is a mild-strong drinker, and one day was a little too much to drink, crazed thoughts being put through action. Although now, this person was just waking up and walking out to meet their new Familiar, an animal demon or humanoid demon who cooks a wonderful breakfast. After that is the start of learning to wield demonic magic.
Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
Modern
Distant war may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat will likely be summarized, not played out in detail.
