It would be neat if it would be possible to have an RP topic be freely readable, but posting only be limited to people specified by the original poster.
I considered that the OP could also "poster lock" the topic after all members have posted, but that would not be ideal if someone else manages to butt in before all planned members have posted etc.
Yep, the closed, 1x1 etc labels in the topic title do take care of this, and I doubt there are many who habitually disrespect these labels, but I think an inbuilt feature like this could be useful and add yet another layer to the feeling of this site being specifically intended for RP.

Honestly I feel like just doing the RP in a PM or in a group is the answer to this. You can freely create your own group for the RP and only people who are in that group can reply to the forum posts of you don't want to do it via PM. Poster lock could result in a poster locking out someone who they suddenly decide they disagree with and don't want in the RP anymore without even really conversing about it. I know that can happen in a group too but it's way more likely if poster lock becomes a thing.
I don't really think that RP topics are the correct place for duking out disagreements regardless?
No, it is not the right place yet it still happens. RPR is a wonderful community but disagreements and arguments do occur, even in the public forums.
Fun fact: RPR was intended to be a host for character profiles that are involved in many different kinds of roleplaying off-site, but with time the community has grown and the site now has many different purposes to suit our needs. It's definitely not just about RPing!
I personally feel like the issue being presented here (people barging into other people's RPs and being disrespectful when asked to leave) happens so infrequently, that these situations can be handled by reporting the user and their posts to the moderators and letting them deal with it. That's what the 'Report' button is for after all. Not only are they able to explain proper RP etiquette and teach someone who would otherwise be locked out from learning about this, we also already have this feature in two variations (groups and PMs) where you can achieve this perfectly. I'd personally prefer for Kim to put her time and energy into upgrading existing features and adding new features we don't already have.

Unfortunately it still happens that people get shadow banned and kicked from groups with no explanation. Post locking would increase the ability to shadow ban people and the chances of people being surprised and confused when they suddenly can't post in an RP anymore.

I also think you're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying it would lock out people who want to come in and argue. I'm saying once the rp starts, let's say it goes on for 300 posts and then suddenly the original poster doesn't want someone in the rp anymore, for various usually unfair reasons. Theoretically, they could then lock that person from being able to post in that topic anymore, and therefore that person wouldn't be able to participate in the RP anymore. With no discussion and no fair ruling.
Hmm, that is true. Alright.
You can use group forums or PMs for this level of control.
