I made a banner specifically so I could get rid of the simple title of the group at the top of the page. Now it just seems a little redundant... Is there a way to remove the title and just have the banner.

It was recently explained that removing group titles from the page isn't possible for the reasons Kim listed, sorry! 
Groups also don't have any pay-for features yet, so everything that is available to you right now is what you can do. As with profiles, there are various creative ways to enhance the looks of a group with additional images and playing with fonts.
