This is a short story I just wrote up a little while ago. I wanted to share it so I figured why not post it here.
A man and woman were married in holy matrimony, and lived together for three years, their lives had been a bit plain, but they were happy so long as they had each other. One day the husband comes home and sighs and says. “Wife, I have a problem” and the wife says “Yes husband?” And the husband says “You dress too plainly.” And the wife says. “What can I do husband?” Husband smiles and says “Dress like you used to, so bright and colorful.” And so the wife does, wearing all colors of the rainbow in her appearance.
The husband comes home a few months later and says “Wife, I have problem.” And the wife goes “Yes husband?” And the husband says. “I think you’re too uneducated.” And the wife goes. “What can I do husband?” “I will pay for it, if you study at the local college.” And so the wife does, learning a new trade.
A few months later the husband comes home and says. “Wife, I have problem.” And the wife goes “Yes husband?” And the husband says. “You are educated but you have no job.” And the wife goes “What can I do husband?” And the husband says “I will help you find a high paying job.” And so the wife does, getting a high paying job in the field her new trade is in.
A few months later, the wife comes home and finds her husband on his death bed. “Wife, I have a confession to make.” Says the husband, the wife in stunned silence listens. “When I came home the first time, I came back from the doctor where I was diagnosed with a terminal sickness, I was sad, but remembered that the colorful outfits you used to wear always made me smile.”
The wife says nothing. “The second time, they told me I had a year to live, and you were always so smart, and I saw how bored you were around the house, so I wanted you to get a new education.” The wife still stayed quiet. “The last time, they told me it was moving faster and I only had a few months, and I didn’t want you to see me home and sick.”
The wife was still quiet. “Wife, I have a problem.” “Yes husband?” She finally says. “You are not happy.” “What can I do husband?” “After I die, you will move on, travel, find happiness how you can, get remarried. Remember I always loved you.” He said, passing away shortly after. And so the wife did...
