"I'll buy your ruby." She signaled the waitress who scuttled off to the kitchen and came back promptly with a hot plate with steaming foods while another put down two tankards of ale and scooping up the gold.
Pen nearly chocked on his own spit. Had she not understood his joke? Or, maybe, she had...? The fire demon accepted his plate with grace, tossing the the ruby towards Emthera. Maybe this would be more fun than he thought.
The food, was amazing. Eat bite sliding deep down into his stomach to fill his entire body with warmth. "I look forward to the room my lady." He winked, sloshing a bit of ale down his throat as he did so.

Emthera looked at him, puzzled. After a moment's contemplation her face turned a bright shade of red. She was silent for a moment. "I sleep during the day and have only been up for a few hours already, and truthfully I have no interest in sharing a bed with any one after a first date, especially since we are practically splitting the check."
Pen's face fell drastically, but he still managed to keep a glimpse of a smile on his lips. "Such a shame. Would have been fun."
"Besides," she said with a smug grin on her face, "I don't think fire should toy with water. He might not be able to stand and deliver." Emthera had sat in corners of taverns alone more times than she could count and had heard even more conversations much like the one she was having. She had always longed to be part of such a conversation but now that it was upon her she was flattered but suddenly quite nervous. It might be best to just stay as she was, a quiet observer.
Now it was Pen's turn to become nervous, turning bright red in the process.
"Pardon me lady, but I promise I can always stand and deliver!" He scoffed, though more embarrassed than actually angry. It wasn't often his advances were met with anything but scorn or surprise. Few rarely went toe to toe with him.

(I'm sorry. I was sick)
Her head went back and forth between the two of them. Interest showing in her blue hued eyes as they kept talking. But it seemed though the dance was out of the question, and it seemed the rain wouldn't being leaving so soon. So, she thought, there would be no dance from the man because he would have already had his meal and wouldn't need her offer. Sighing she slowly began tapping on the table and leaning the chair back on it's back legs. Rocking it back and forth.

Emthera started laughing. "I'm sorry. No one ever talks to me like that and I don't really understand. I thought I could copy what others do but I guess not. I didn't mean to offend you."
Pen should his head back and force, face still bright red. "No no, no need to apologize. It was my fault for being so forward. I don't usually get responses like that." He laughed nervously. "Thank you for buying my gem, this meal is wonderful."
"You are most welcome, my friend." Generally she didn't like people who played with fire, but he was different. "Are you staying in the area after the rain lets up?"
Now that was a curious question. Pen scratched the side of his cheek curiously. "I duno. Probably not. I dance for fun and use my gems as a living. This area isn't too fond of either, so I'll be mosing on away here soon."
"Do you have any place to call home? You don't have to answer," she added quickly at the end. She wondered if he was like her, traveling alone with no destination and no place to go back to, but she didn't want to seem too curious. Now she wished she hadn't brought it up at all.
Pen looked her over curiously. She seemed so nervous. Then he laughed.
"No home as of right now. Can't find a real reason to stay in any one place you know? Not when there are so many things to experience, so many adventures to go on."
