Hello all! 'tis I, Cely.
So, I grew up with Pokemon. Pokemon Yellow, the Gameboy Advance, Pokemon cards where you actually battled your friends/siblings, Pokedex toys, Pokemon marbles... etc etc.
My childhood was Pokemon.
Well, I haven't touched a Nintendo handheld since the original DS days (rip nintendogs). However, my boyfriend is extremely into Pokemon. Plays all the games, loves the strategy and enjoyment, watches youtubers do nuzzlockes, etc. I decided that I was going to get a 3ds so that I could play with him, and we'd be able to bond on a deeper level, and I could really understand what he was so passionate about.
So yesterday, I acquired a 3ds, Pokemon Y, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, and Pokemon Moon (my local gamestore was having an awesome sale). I also got LoZ: Ocarina of Time, but that's beside the point.
Lemme tell you, Pokemon is SO different than what I grew up with! But not in a bad way, not at all. I literally spent all evening playing Pokemon Y. Oh my gosh I'm so addicted. I just got to Lumios City, and I had to stop, but I can't wait until I get to play again. My starter was Froakie because I like his evolutions the most out of the three. I also have a Pansage, a panpour, a fletchling, and a couple others that went into the PC.
Dudes. It's so much fun.
So tell me your favorite things about Pokemon! What are some helpful tips you have? For the record, I can't remember for the life of me what's effective and what's not. I tried to Lick one pokemon and it didn't work, and I was so confused. I can't remember all of that from so long ago! I just remember the basics like water is effective against fire and electric is effective against water.
So give me some tips, and some awesome times you've had!

Hello!
Oh, what a coincidence. I was listening to Suicune's theme when I saw this thread. I absolutely LOVE Pokemon! And all I gotta say is I first played Pokemon Red and Silver later on when I was so young and GameBoy Color was in stores. In fact, I also had gen 3 cards and my favorite one was Manectric because it had a holo effect, along with a Voltorb marble and a Pikachu ball! And before I forget, I watched episodes of Indigo League before kindergarten everyday at 7 AM. Memories~ ;-;
I never played X/Y myself, only Alpha Sapphire and later games (I also played Black and White and Emerald before). However, there are many helpful sites with guides so you can build the perfect team in X and Y as well as other games, along with elemental weaknesses of each type. Just a google would do. For example, "pokemon type chart"! I found something useful in there.
Well, not all moves are effective against certain types of Pokemon. Some may be effective, some may not affect at all.

If there was any franchise worth selling my soul to, it was Pokémon. I've been playing it for as long as I can remember, starting with Blue and ending up all the way here. I just recently restarted my X file, so if you'd ever be interested in battling or trading or something, I'd be happy to fire off my friend code.
I LOVE Pokémon! I just went and got an eevee build a bear yesterday! And a few weeks before that I ordered a costume pikachu dressed as mega diancie(my all time favorite Pokémon) from the Pokémon center website! So many good changes came to Pokémon with y/x, and it’s only just gonna continue! Already we’re anticipating the announcement of the main series game on the switch!

@Kyrie, awesome, thank you so much Yessss, the memories are the best. My favorite was always Vaporeon, because when my dad went to Germany he brought me back a glittery Vaporeon German Pokemon card. It was fabulous.
@Joyius, awesome!! I love pokemon stuffies I'm trying to cut back on all my stuffed animals because I have WAY too many, but for my birthday last year my boyfriend got me a life-size Dedene (we were watching XYZ together and it was my favorite). I'm currently working on a DIY Pokeball terrarium for him
I'm REALLY enjoying my time on Y right now. I can't wait to get out of work and play it some more!

Oh my goooosh I love Pokemon! I've been into it since I was 4! My dad introduced me to the Anime. He tried introducing me to Pokemon Yellow but I guess I wasn't so sure how to play a video game so my dad played most of the beginning while I just watched. I mostly loved the movies and anime though. Later on, a few years later, I meet this kid. He shows me how Pokemon has evolved. He showed me the newer games, he showed me the Console Pokemon Games (The Shadow Series and Pokemon Stadium). I sort of skipped Johto and got immediately onto Hoenn. I begged my dad if he could get me Pokemon Emerald and he did! Funny thing is that my friend (the aformentioned Kid) wasn't aware of Emerald and how it's a superior version to Ruby and Sapphire so he was confused about the animations it had
I started with a Treecko, that was/is my favorite starter (funnily enough, a few years later when I got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, somehow I got the Personality Quiz to say that I was a Treecko (quirky natured) which made it even better ). I named him Joey and we were best buddies! I grew him up to Level 100. I don't remember other Pokemon on my team, other than a Swellow, a Gardevoir named Rebecca(She was a Kirlia for a while because I didn't like Gardevoir's design at first), and I remember trying to train the Beldum Steven gives the player after the elite four into a Metagross. Oh. And Latias. I remember training the heck out of Latias. Come to think of it, maybe I /do/ remember the Pokemon on my team o-o
I started playing other games like FireRed. Later on I got Diamond and Pearl.
Most recently (like a month or so ago) I just beaten Platinum's main story. I feel such pride because I wanted to beat the Sinnoh Elite Four for so long! Without using a legendary, and using a team that I felt was best. I also defeated Black's story, I'm hoping to get my Platinum and Black team to my Ultra Sun eventually.
And I just realized that I am typing out a short story
I guess what I love about Pokemon is the fact that the team you build becomes less of a team and more of a family, if you're really into it. And I love the adventures you have and the memories you make along the way.

Perhaps later on, we could battle or trade ^^ I still have yet to complete X (I'm near the last gym) and Y was already completed.
Other Pokemon Games I recommend are
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (particularly Blue Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky) If you like games with good stories, then those are the games for you! They get really immersive and it will tug at your heart strings. They are more or less dungeon crawlers, kinda like some of the Final Fantasy Games. But once you get the hang of it, they are actually quite fun!
Pokemon Black or White and their sequels Black 2 or White 2: (Either version can be played you'd get the same experience. They came out before X and Y.) These games also have excellent stories, and I guarantee that you will get attached. Black and White was created with the thought of "we need to make a clean slate. Something that will be new and challenging for veteran players, and introductory for newer players" so they basically created a new Pokedex and haven't used any of the older Pokemon for the main story. It's good if you want to try something new and have a little challenge ^^ (You might recognize some of the Pokemon from X and Y in that game considering it came out before them)
Pokemon Platinum is also really good! A bit slow but still an enjoyable experience! (I actually reccommend Pokemon Platinum more than Diamond and Pearl due to their better gameplay mechanics) Actually all of the games are really good in their own ways ^^

Kansas, it told me that code isn't correct?
@Lady, oooo that's awesome thanks for the info!!
You may not realize this, but X and Y introduced one mechanic I like, and Sun and Moon introduced the other.
Megas and Z-Moves. When done right, it says a lot about the Trainer.
If you have a Generation 7 title (one with Sun or Moon in its name), you can get a potentially strong ally if you get my Friend Code...ignore this invite if we already exchanged codes. If not, send me a message.
