Amora is a 17 year old (almost 18) who has no idea she is a Nefelibata, and your character is another supernatural creature who helps recruit her into an apprentice program. A Nefelibata is a dreamwalker, cloud walker, they vivid dream and can (with practice) enter others dreams. Also (without a lot of practice) can cloud walk, which is basically flying, but instead of floating they are walking in the sky. A nefelibata is born to human parents, so she has no idea what she is and can be pulled into any story with another supernatural.
Mundane? What's that? Magic permeates every part of the setting. Almost everyone has access to strong magic.
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
Combat is woven into the storyline and could come to the forefront if the characters seek it out.
