Tolora walked numbly out of the house she and her mother had shared. It was overgrown with weeds now and one wall of the house had already fallen in. It hardly looked like the place she had lived out her originally peaceful and happy life. But the memories still came back, fresh as if the events had happened just moments ago. Her horror and sense of loss came rushing back and she didn't try to stop the tears that rolled down her cheeks since she was alone.
Unable to bear it anymore, she shifted to her feral form and sprinted through the woods as fast as she could. Woods that she had run through thousands of times. They now looked foreign and unfamiliar. Tolora narrowly missed crashing into a tree but she didn't slow. She simply wanted to get away as fast as she could. Away from the hurt and the sense of failure.
She had yet to find her mother's killer like she had promised that dreadful night. She had come to a dead end and didn't know what to do anymore. She was lost.

THe jackal boy froze in place as he heard the crying coming from the direction of the old, abandoned home he had found the week before.
"Why can't I ever get any peace and quiet?" he mumbled to himself before slowly walking on ahead, his feet-paws silent against the dirt as he approached, peaking out from between the leaves to see who was crying.

Marina had seen the girl run off. She had seen so much in the last few days, especially that night. She hadn't told anyone that she was there to see the shock wave, she was there when the force of it had thrown the poor girls mother out the door and on to the street, and that she had seen the woman's broken body knowing she was dead.
Marina felt shameful. She had been stalking the house for some time now trying to work up the courage to tell the girl, to tell all, but it never came.

Tolora finally stopped and her lungs were burning. She collapsed next to a tree and tried to get her bearings. She needed to get back... She had seen other weres that had let their beast completely and totally take over. It was a scary prospect for her. Even in her depression, she didn't want to lose herself. And she had a promise to keep.
"This is a bad idea," Marina told herself. If she couldn't get up the courage to go up to the girl she would get the girl to come to her. She broke into the house quite easily and settled into a couch to sleep. There was a chance the girl wouldn't come back but that was a risk she had to take.
Startled, Jazmine looked down at the fallen form at the bottom of her tree. The girl looked depressed, just like Jazmine. Jazmine made a horrifying choice to throw something at the girl. So she picked a pine cone off the branch and threw it as hard as her little arms would allow, and it hit the girls head.Oh no, what if she gets mad???? Jazmine wondered.
Tolora felt something hit her head, and she looked up. She saw a pine cone bounce to the ground. Then she looked up, expecting to see a squirrel, but instead saw Jazmine. "Did you...throw a pine cone at me?" Tolora was more surprised than anything else.
"Y-yes..." Jazmine stampered, more scared then anything else. "I-I just w-wanted to know why y-your so sad...." Jazmine finished, flattening herself against the trunk.
Tolora sighed. "It's complicated..." This girl reminded her of her littler brother, Markal. She looked about the same age.
Jazmine jumped down from her branch about 8ft up and landed gracefully beside her. "I might be able to help..." Jazmine replied, sitting next to her and laying her head on her shoulder. I'm not alone anymore.
Tolora smiled sadly. "I don't know that you can, you see--" She reached for her belt and her eyes widened. It wasn't there. "Where is it?!" The sheath was still there, but where was the dagger? "I must have dropped it back at the house." She groaned. She really didn't want to go back but she didn't have much of a choice.
"What's wrong?" Jazmine lifted her head to look at Tolora. "What did you leave, and at what house?"
"My old house... The one I lived in with my mother, until she died... Someone had murdered her and hadn't bothered to take their murder weapon with them. The dagger..." The memories came back, her mother face down in a pool of her own blood, the gleam of the dagger sticking out of her back. "It's the only thing I have to go on, the only thing I have from the killer."
"Oh, i know how you feel... My parents were murdered by somebody too...." Jazmine said quietly "I was hiding under the stairs and some guys in cloaks broke into the house and use some weird swords that lit up the room.... then they just disappeared...." Jazmine finished, laying her head back on Tokora's shoulder.
Tolora hesitated, then put her arm around Jazmine. "I never knew my dad and my mom and I seemed to get along just fine without him. I don't even know if he's alive. I know he was about ten years ago, though. I have a younger half-brother that he left behind too. Maybe other brothers and sisters around here that I haven't found... I have to go back, though and find that dagger." Tolora started walking in the direction of the house. "Maybe we could both help each other out."
"Ok." Jazmine said simply, and started to follow Tolora. "I'll come too, by the way, I'm Jazmine." Jazmine smiled up at Tolora and stuck her hand into hers.
Tolora smiled back at Jazmine. "My name is Tolora." Going back through the forest was slower and when she'd come through earlier, but she didn't mind. She dreaded going back to the house.
Walking through the forest was better with Tolora, Jazmine felt safer then she had in a long time. A little later a cottage loomed up in the distance. "I think we're almost there Tolora..." Jazmine squinted up at tolora in the darkness. She kinda looks like the picture of sissy that mommy had in her bedroom, that i always asked about......
Tolora spotted the cottage ahead, and sighed. "Yup, that's it." They came closer to it and you could see the vines growing over it. She started searching for the dagger. "It has to be here somewhere..."
Suddenly Jazmine felt a presence nearby that wasn't Tolora. "Tolora, I think we're being watched." Jazmine said quietly as she pointed to a spot about 10ft away where there was slight rustling that the human ear can't detect. "I think it has your dagger too." Jazmine added as she saw something gleaming in the moonlight.
