Kayleigh giggled at that last statement. Yet she didn't very much like the idea of a ghost floating through the wall when she was in the shower. Suddenly she remembered her shower last night, and the fact she slept naked. She could just slap herself at that moment. "Could you teach me a trick to scare him off of that happens?" she asked with an embarassed smile.
Kate nodded with a grin, "Of course. Us girls have got to stick together, right? He probably won't try it, not after what happened to him last time, but there's a magical ward that lets you seal a room against the undead, I can teach it to you, if you'd like?" Kate frowned, "Actually, it might be a bit beyond you at the moment. I mean, you only just awakened your magic yesterday... hm... I know, I'll set up the wards on your room tonight, all you have to do it touch the symbol I'll put on your door and focus on it, and then... um... will it to work. You might to use a strong emotion at first to call up your magic. I suggest you use the anger you'd feel if Seth floated in on you." Kate giggled, "Poor Seth. At this rate he won't be able to float four feet without smacking into some ward or other."
Kayleigh grinned at the idea. "Well, he started it!" she smiled happily. She seemed to be right about Kate, she was someone Kay could relate to. That makes at least one person. She dearly hoped both Dawn and Jerian were the same behind the professional first impression they gave the young girl.
Kate grinned, "My thoughts exactly. I'l set up the ward when I have time to spare on it. I guess for the first few days we'll probably see a lot of each other. If you ever need a sympathetic ear to talk to death, well, I'll be around. Oh! and Tech too! He's our Knight Technician, in charge of our equipment. He's a bit...ah... eccentric, and he's really not that organised either. He's been locked up in his lab for two or three days now, working on something, something crazy probably. His real name is Jonathan, but he prefers the nickname." She shook her head, "He's a nice guy, when he isn't causing explosions and building odd contraptions. He once tried to make a magic-fueled blender, which malfunctioned pretty badly and ripped open a small hole in the fabric of the universe, or something. Took us months to track down all the creatures that got through the tear before he could fix it." She snorted, "The man's a bloody menace sometimes, I'm just glad he's on our side."
Kate then glanced around and leaned in conspiratorially, "By the way, I wouldn't worry too much about Jerian and Dawn. I know they can be a bit intimidating to a newbie, but they're nice guys. Jerin's Seth's partner-in-crime, he might have seemed a bit...uh... proper and professional before but he's nothing like that really. He loves goofing off and pranking people himself. Hell, he can afford to goof off sometimes considering he's a Elite. As for Dawn... well, she's the Commander so she's got to keep up certain appearances. You'll do fine so long as you don't make a racket in the mornings and let her have her coffee. She's no a morning person, and you do not want to mess with Dawn O'Hara before she's had her morning coffee."

Kayleigh smiled happily, her sincerest smile in years. She laughed softly. "I'll bear it in mind... Stay away from Dawn O'Hara before morning coffee, internal note written!" she giggled.
Looking out the window again, she calmed down again. "It's so different here. There's so much more... I don't know. I've never even lived in a situation like this. All I've ever known is a two-room flat, and one of them was the bathroom. And I've had to work early because my parents couldn't earn enough to keep us standing... Here it's..." she paused to think of the right word "...More peaceful? Yeah, peaceful."

Kate nodded with a smile, "Here we will have to begin your new education. It'll take time, a long time maybe, but... if you want... perhaps we can get you a place here. A place in our order." Kate's smile faded a bit, "It'll be hard work though... and our life is dangerous. We think that the cause we fight for is a good one, but if you do join up, you'll become a soldier, someone on the front lines of a war to keep Humanity safe."
Kayleigh smiled slightly. "At least that'll be a lot better than fighting on the front lines of a carpenter's store." she said as she smiled at Kate.
Kate shrugged, "Well, this life might be more interesting, but it's also a lot more dangerous." She chuckled, "We have great dental and health plans though, and if you live long enough I bet they give you a great pension." Kate smiled again, "Here at Cell Theta we've got a bit of an informal policy of not prying into people's business. Dawn might have our service histories on file, but she doesn't poke about in people's pasts without reason... so I won't ask about who you were before today... I mean, it doesn't even matter, really. You could have been High Queen of Mars for all we care. You're one if us now, or at least you can be."
Kate hesitated and then said, "Though, if you want a bit of friendly advice I'd try to avoid mentioning family and things around Jerian. He doesn't show it but... well... we might not pry, but the kid's past is pretty well-known across The Society, except the classified bits." She shook her head, "You see, Jerian has no family, none at all. He never has. He was an orphan, or so the story goes, dropped on the doorstep of some church in London... a Society safehouse. He had a necklace with The Society's symbol on it with him... he's never had a normal life, and sometimes... I feel sorry for him. He never had a choice in his life, he never had a chance to be normal." She then frowned, "Just don't tell him I said anything. He'd kick my butt from here back to Central."

Kayleigh smiled. "I won't ask him about it." she reassured Kate. "ANd I won't tell him you told me either." she looked around for a second. "Anyway... How is this going to be happening? I mean, I still pretty much know nothing at all.."
Kate shrugged, "Well, the first thing we're going to have to do is get your magic under your conscious control, which means meditation and concentration exercises. We're also going to have to bring you up to speed with the real world, I think Dawn'll be the one to give you a run down on The Society's history and an overview of all the creatures and stuff we face. I'll help Jerian give you a bit of combat training and I might [itc in with the magic training too."
Kayleigh nodded. "Alright then... But I'd like something to eat first." she said with a smile. She hadn't eaten since the previous morning with all the tensions in the evening the day before, and her stomach was growling loudly.
Kate smiled, "It's a good thing we've got a well-stocked kitchen, huh?" The blonde gestured for Kayleigh to follow her and led the woman through a few corridors until they got to a spacious kitchen, fully stocked with all kinds of modern culinary gadgetry. She rummaged through a few cupboards and then the fridge and said, "Well, it looks like no one's raided the kitchen yet, so were fully stocked."
Kayleigh's eyes went wide when she saw all the food inside the fridge. "I have honestly never seen this amount of food in one place at the same time!" she uttered. She was blown away. "I-I don't know what to choose..."
Kate grinned, "Well, I'd suggest eat a bit of everything, but you might explode from over-eating." The blonde woman got out some bread, butter, two or three different kinds of meat and some cheese, "We may as well start with a sandwich." She said with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes, "Just no late night snacking. You might wander into Seth in the night and for a newbie like you... well... he's harmless but he won't pass up that kind of opportunity to scare the heck out of you." She smirked, "I mean, you're in a few-hundred-year old year that you've never been in before, at night and then bam! There's a ghost!" She giggled, "It doesn't get more clichéd than that!"
Kayleigh grinned. "A sandwich sounds nice though, I have,'t had a proper one since I was like nine years old!" she happily joined Kate, and as soon as she sat made herself a sandwich and ate it really fast. "Is there more?"
Kate smiled and nodded, "Of course." She set about making a variety of different sandwiches, as she did so she said, "I do most of th cooking around here. Dawn's normally much too busy being the boss, Jerian's too lazy, Seth's too...um... dead and Tech spends most of his time around dangerous contraptions, substances and who knows what else. Honestly, I wouldn't let any of them near this kitchen if I could help it. It's a miracle one of us hasn't destroyed it yet."
Kayleigh giggled. "I'll try not to, either." She would wait for Kate to give her another sandwich and started eating that one as well - still fast but slower than before.
Kate grinned, her tone was mock-serious, "You better not! Otherwise we might pack you off to Tibet earlier than you'd like!" She then went back to making a third sandwich, "Despite the fact that I'm stuck on kitchen duty, I think I've had more fun in this Cell than any other I've been assigned to. They don't take themselves too seriously when they're off-duty, and we know how to kick back and relax." She smirked and her tone went conspiratorial, "Plus... it's fun watching Dawn and Jerian moon over each other when they think no one's looking." She cackled at that and shook her head, "I think Tech might have noticed, but Seth's completely clueless... even more than Dawn and Jerian are."
Kayleigh looked up at that. "They're in love?" she inquired. "But, as far as I know they'r elike polar opposites!"
Kate smirked, "I know, right? Maybe opposites really do attract... but then again, they're more similar than you think. Sure Jerian loves goofing off and avoiding responsibility and all that, but you've never seen him under fire. When his back's against the wall an people's lives are on the line he's like a completely different person. It's kind of scary, really." She looked thoughtful, "It makes sense though. Jerian's trained all his life to be a Paladin of The Society. It's all he's ever known and he'd damned good at it. I guess he needs to blow off steam like anyone else, so he goofs off and messes around and annoys the hell out of all of us, but under all that he's one of the most dangerous people I know."
Kate finished making the third sandwich and set it aside, turning around to face Kayleigh, "As for Dawn... well, She takes her job very seriously, and she's got a hell of a temper, but she's got a soft side as well. Oh, she never shows it, or tries not to anyway, but I've seen little glimpses here and there." She grinned, "I've even heard her singing Irish folk songs in the shower. A few of them were even love songs, so I can definitely say she's not quite the stern, professional leader she likes to make out she is."
