The Wise King didn't go to sleep- so how is he here? That man of regal presence looks down onto the void with the ever present gaze of his mind's eye, judging the explorers of the dreamland with insanity's malice. This journey just took a turn for the absolute worst. Even with the end in sight only a few hundred feet away, avoiding the gaze of a wise man gone mad seems impossible when compared to the vast, empty canyon that stands between me, and the temple I've so long searched for. I'll have to find a way around- but i don't have time...

This excerpt is from a short novella I was working on a little bit ago. If you're familiar with lovecraft then you should understand ththe concept of the dreamlands- however confusing they may be.
What I want is to do a little world building exercise with someone to flesh out a concept I have for an upcoming project. This is likely to be a one off scene, but I'm open to doing other lovecraftian themed role plays in the future.

Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.

Unrest may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat may be summarized.
