So I usually like free-form stories when RPing on message boards, but once in awhile, it's hard to beat the excitement of rolling the (virtual) bones and letting that dictate the outcome.

Just curious what table-top systems folks have had good luck with when converted to forum play.

Wish list:

• There's at least a lite version of the rules freely available online
• Uses the dice available on this site. (So 'Fudge' probably wouldn't work)
• Quick character creation
• Handles magic

I've never tried it, but I wanna add that you can use a d6 as "fudge" as long as you decide on which numbers are which symbol beforehand ^^

I haven't played much with the die roller on this site yet... Does it give the breakdown?

I don't think that works, cause you'd need the face value of each die. (Appreciate the idea though!)

I didn't think about adding 1 at time, so I'll concede that playing with Fudge dice is possible, but it's definitely not "nice".

Let me broaden the question. What rules sets have you (everyone/anyone) tried over forum-play? Benefits/drawbacks?

Been thinking about something super simple like this:

Roll d10

• 1-2 Fail and another player gets to narrate the bad outcome
• 3-4 Fail, but you get to narrate the outcome
• 5 Something makes it harder. Attempt again at a -1
• 6 Something makes it easier. Attempt again at a +1
• 7-8 Success and another player gets to narrate the outcome
• 9-10 Success and you get to narrate the outcome

If desired, could have a small ability pyramid that would probably max out at +3.

Maybe there's a system out there like that already?
